Mustering out from the painting desk today are a dozen troopers from the Colonel-General's Regiment. Figures are Eureka Miniatures. Flag is from Not by Appointment by David. David was worried that a 15mm-sized cavalry standard would be too small to see the detail and not worth the effort. I disagree! Even the detail on this diminutive banner clearly illustrates David's fine work.
While painting work is moving units through the queue at a good pace, units are stacking up at the photo booth. Lots of units to document over a variety of periods. This traffic jam is primarily due to all of the gaming seen over the last several weeks. Besides the effort with Solferino, the Reconquista Battle of Ucles has been action four times. The latest Ucles saw a rip-roaring action on Monday. I have one Ucles game to make up due to a sore back. With a little luck and time, some of the Ucles battles can be chronicled here over the upcoming weeks.

Now I am off to prepare my Fokker Dr1 Triplane for the last sortie in the WWI aerial campaign. One more kill puts a tenth mark next to my name into the squadron ledger. With luck, my pilot may survive the war.
Wow sounds like you have been extra busy there Jon, just as well you don't have work to get in the way of all this frenetic activity! You may have to do a post per day for a short while, to clear some of the backlog of painted figures and AAR's!
ReplyDeleteNo time for paid work here! How did I ever manage a full time job? A miracle, I think!
DeleteA post per day would likely overwhelm both me and the readership.
I like the closed up basing of the cavalry, it looks like a heavy hitting unit.
ReplyDeleteI like a densely packed heavy cavalry unit. There a certain satisfaction in moving a heavy piece around on the table.
DeleteI’m with you both on this. There’s so heft about them.
DeleteNice brushwork. As usual!
Chris/Nundanket
Thanks, Chris! The heft and plunk of a multi-figure stand of metal figures onto the table cannot be replaced by plastic.
DeleteHope you have more luck with your Dr1 than I had with mine. I used to play Canvas Eagles a lot and was shot down every time with rarely a burst at the enemy!
ReplyDelete
DeleteI used to play Canvas Eagles lot in the old days. Once the Dr1 became available in this campaign, I took to that craft and stuck with it. Many of my kills have been in the triplane. They cannot take a lot of damage so one must fly carefully.
Splendid brushwork. Always good to see the production line moving.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lee! Yes, seeing movement in the production line is a welcome sight.
DeleteLovely work on those cavalry. When do we get to see them in action?
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, Neil! While the bulk of my painted French cavalry saw action at Bassignana, no date set when these troopers will see action.
DeleteGreat looking cavalry and the cavalry standard is perfect! I can barely keep up with your posts , let alone if you move to daily!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you! Yes, the flag looks perfect to me too. As for posting frequency, daily would be too much.
DeleteBeautiful looking cavalry sir!
ReplyDeleteWarm regards
Thank you, Michal!
DeleteSplendid and intimidating looking cavalry Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteVery nice Jonathan, you have been most productive. Have to agree plastic cavalry just do not feel right even if they are light cavalry.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Even in plastic, light cavalry are just too light! Good one!
DeleteA lovely group and the standard was definitely worth the effort. No problem making out the detail. Congratulations on cracking 100 figures which is quite an achievement given all the games you have been hosting.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lawrence! A 100 figure total is a good benchmark for me to target.
DeleteAround a 100 figures a month is impressive.
ReplyDeleteThanks! So far three months in 2022 have hit that mark.
DeleteFab looking unit and flag!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray!
DeleteExcellent work! I'm doing two squadrons of that unit once the figures turn up.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I look forward to seeing your rendition. Old Glory or Blue Moon cavalry for you?
DeleteBlue Moon.
DeleteA fine unit there Jon and they certainly look like heavy cavalry that mean business, bunched together like that:).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steve!
DeleteVery nice unit. I love these "...géneral"-regiments. David's standards are amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, David’s flags are superb.
DeleteSplendid looking unit that certainly looks as if it means business! And yes, I was wrong about the standards; they do look pretty good even though they are so small. So I will have to continue producing more of them... ;-) (Thanks for the nice comments about them.)
ReplyDeleteCheers,
David.
Thanks, David! Another French infantry regiment coming up soon with one of your flags. Getting close to finishing up two Spanish regiments. Looking forward to seeing flags on those. I need to create a new flag sheet with Spanish and some of your other recent releases.
DeleteExcellent! Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing the Spanish regiments too; yours will be the first with my flags that I've seen!
DeleteCheers,
David.
A beautiful unit of heavy horse, Jon. The flag was totally worth it, beyond doubt!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, David’s flag effort was totally worth it!
DeleteA fine cavalry Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thank you!
DeleteSounds like you need an assistant to help you stay on top of your hobby Jon!
ReplyDeleteLiking the unit of Heavy Horse! That flag is lovely too.
I could use an assistant or two!
DeleteLooks like The Lead Pile is devoid of SYW French cavalry. Hopefully, Eureka offers up a holiday sale soon.
