Work continues on producing SYW French for the ever-increasing French army. Today's offering is Regiment Du Roi. Figures are Old Glory foot led by a Eureka Miniatures' mounted colonel. Flags are by Not by Appointment.
One goal for 2022 was to add an 18mm SYW French army to the SYW collection. This looks to be one goal kept. To date, 2022 has seen 29 French units cross the painting desk and muster out for battle. Many of these French troops even saw action at Bassignana mid-year. Still lots more work to do but emphasize may shift to adding Spanish and Piedmontese units next.
After a four-game run at the table, the Reconquista armies have been packed away for another day. Battle reports still remain to tackle. In their place, the table is reset with another collection rarely seen out on the table.

Rather than fight the battle with the Gauls sandwiched between two Roman armies and needing to fight fore and aft, this action explores the possibility of the Gauls turning on their pursuers before contacting Regulus' army to the north.
First test of battle will be on Sunday.
Beautiful looking minis Jonathan. Can't wait for battle report!
ReplyDeleteBest regards
Thanks, Michal!
DeleteMore nice work on your French
ReplyDeleteMore still to come!
DeleteYou have certainly had a very productive year, Jon and the newly minted "Kings Regiment" look great! Looking forward to AAR's of recent battles and also to the upcoming "what if" scenario(s)
ReplyDeleteTotal count will be down somewhat, but I still may hit 900 painted figures for the year. Maybe even 1,000?
DeleteI am so far behind writing up battle reports...
Yes, well, that's the problem with playing three games a week I suppose...!
DeleteIndeed, it is. With finite time, increase in one activity necessitates decrease in the other.
DeleteA beautiful regiment Jonathan. I'm very much looking forward to reading the AAR on the forthcoming pre-Telamon game. What rule set will you be using?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lawrence! Rules of Engagement will be Basic Impetvs 2.0+ (my changes are the '+' !).
DeleteNice SYW French and Telamon game Jonathan! I played Telamon with CCA, the Gauls were in the middle surrounded by the two Roman consular armies, a surprisingly close game.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike!
DeleteFor this Telamon game, I explore the possibility of the Gauls turning on their pursuers and fighting only to the south rather than finding themselves in battle as the cream filling in a Roman Oreo.
Busy man Jonathan, just looked over my costs for 2022 and need to sit down.
ReplyDeleteGeorge, don’t look!
DeleteLovely work on the French Jon. For my Austrians I'm planning on a similar light grey base white white highlights for some contrast, which I believe will work well. As always David's flags really do work a treat.
ReplyDeleteI like your 'what if?' approach to Telamon, which being historically plausible, makes for a more interesting game iMHO.
Thanks! For these French, I use a slight off-white. The Minwax stain gives the finished figure a slightly grey look.
DeleteOn Telamon, a more interesting battle with challenges for both is better, isn’t it?
Another fine looking unit to join the forces of His Most Christian Majesty. Telamon looks set fair for great gaming.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Richard! I hope the game is set fairly with equal opportunities for victory.
DeleteThose infantry look fit for a king Jonathan! I look forward to seeing your game of Telamon.
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
Good one! I look forward to the battle too. We will see how it plays.
DeleteFurther fine Frenchies and gaming, you are certainly setting the pace there.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Phil! Once you get into a routine, several games per week become commonplace.
DeleteGreat looking french unit Jon……and the Romans look intimidating !
ReplyDeleteThank you! If the Romans intimidate you then you should take command of them.
DeleteAnother great addition to the French army. Twenty-nine units…may as well round it off to 30, but then again 40 has a nice ring to it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mark! You might be able to paint 11 more regiments by year-end but not sure I can. 40 does have a nice ring…
DeleteA fine looking addition to your collection Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteI’m looking forward to seeing how the Gauls fair in their upcoming battle.
All the best. Aly
Thanks, Aly! With a lot of luck and some time, I might get a battle report out on the Telamon action. Game later today.
DeleteAnother very handsome French 7YW infantry regiment, Jon. A lot of production on that front this year, as per your goal! Hope the game went well!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter! Telamon is on deck for later this morning.
DeleteFab looking unit Jonathan! Telemon looks interesting too?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! We will find out soon if Telamon is interesting.
DeleteLovely looking regiment Jonathan! That ancients already looks great and it's yet to played.
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thanks! Game #1 was a convincing Roman victory. The legions ripped the heart out of the Gallic army.
DeleteSplendid work on the French again. :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers,
David.
Thanks, David!
DeleteLovely French regiment. I can't wait to see them in battle.
ReplyDeleteThanks, André! I am in search of another battle for the French. Perhaps WAS? Any recommendations?
DeleteAs always, those Frenchies you put out look great Jon!
ReplyDeleteThat battle should be a good'n!
Thanks!
DeleteIn Game #1, The Gauls got crushed. In Game #2, the Romans won the narrowest of victories. Next week is Game #3.
I like the French uniforms from this period and you have done a great job making them look good. The new scenario for Telamon is interesting, but it appears it didn't help them much.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I like the French uniforms of this period too. I think the Telamon scenario could go either way.
