Seems like SYW figures have not trooped across the painting desk in a while. That is about to change. Several battalions of Bavarian infantry are forming up in the painting queue patiently awaiting their turn with the brush.
Off the painting desk today is a 23-figure battalion of Bavarian infantry from the Morawitzky Regiment. These figures muster out as the second battalion of the regiment. The first battalion mustered out a long time ago. I think those figures were Freikorps 15's. Finally, its sister battalion is called up for service. While the mounted officer is an Eureka Miniatures figure, the musketeers are from Lancashire Games' 18mm SYW Austrian range. This battalion is the first time Lancashire's SYW Austrians have seen the painting table. Lancashire SYW Russians have made their way across the painting desk but not Austrians. These are really great figures. Easy to paint with nicely raised details. I like the seemingly oversized tricornes too. Size-wise, the figures compare favorably to Eureka, Blue Moon, and Old Glory infantry. Expect more of these fine figures to come.
Very nice job Jonathan - Bavarians are always a nice colour scheme - right up to 1871, they wear that striking sky blue uniform
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith! The Bavarian uniform is one of my favorites.
DeleteI agree with rross, lovely colour contrasts, splendid work sir!
ReplyDeleteThank YOU, Sir!
DeleteLovely looking Bavarians! It's always a nice colour scheme and you've done a great job of it!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Much appreciated, Iain! The straw colored facings, breeches, and waistcoat are a nice contrast to the cornflower blue coat.
DeleteOooo these are very nice, the Bavarians do have the coolest uniform for any 18th century units. Top work Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! I agree that the Bavarians have the coolest uniform.
DeleteLooking good Jonathan. I was just about to mention the striking Bavarian colour scheme and then read all the above comments which I am in total agreement with.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Pat.
Glad you line them. Pat! Your latest adventures in Setting the Scene are so impressive.
DeleteLovely Bavarians, likely next on my own painting list :)
ReplyDeleteMark, I look forward to seeing your fine brushwork on Bavarians. They will be splendid!
DeleteWhat a sweet unit. Vibrant colours, no one can beat the Bavarians for their look, and you do them justice.
ReplyDeleteI have some 6mm Napoleonic Bavarians that I need to get to - this gives me some inspiration to tackle that project.
Bravo, mon ami!
Thank you very much, Michael!
DeleteI await the trooping of your Bavarians in 6mm. Happy to provide a bit of inspiration!
So good to see you back!
An attractive unit with that lovely shade of blue that is emphasised by the flag.
ReplyDeleteIn the photo, the cuffs look too deeply sculpted - is that just the camera or is that noticeable in the real unit ... I am still a little unconvinced by some of the newer Lancashire Games 18mm sculpts. In a couple of months, I should be seeing the trader and the figures in person, I was trying to decide on their ACW, but will wait until then.
Thank you, Norm. Yes, the cuffs are cut quite deeply and look more appropriate for WSS but I like them. These figures are from the older Lancashire ranges and not from the more recent 18mm additions including the FRW. The newer ranges and sculpts are a step back in quality to me. That these match up well with figures from my SYW project and are quite inexpensive is a BIG bonus.
DeleteLet me know your impressions of the figures when you see them in person. Compare the older figures (like the SYW range) against the newer 18mm sculpts (FRW and Napoleon in Egypt).
Very nice colors, and the Lancashire figures look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Scott! A few more Bavarian battalions to come.
DeleteYet another lovely unit Jonathan. I'm always amazed at your painting output and the consistently high quality. Long may it continue!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steve! Painting will likely continue until they pry the brush from my cold, dead hand...
DeleteGreat colours Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteNicely looking unit, Jonathan! The color palette is great.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dmitry!
DeleteVery colorful troops, Jonathan. Inspiring as always.
ReplyDeleteI like your new Avatar, Dean!
DeleteStunning!
ReplyDeleteYou are too kind!
DeleteCracking regiment Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike!
DeleteGreat work Jonathan, and my first thought was also how well the colours you have chosen work on these figures.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The Bavarians knew how to dress!
DeleteNice looking troops and the flag is super pretty. 😀
ReplyDeleteThe Bavarian flag is a handsome one, for sure.
DeleteExcellent work as always Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLovely unit Jonathan! That’s some cool brushwork you’ve got there!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the result, Mike!
DeleteThat is indeed one fine looking regiment Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thanks! More Bavarians to follow.
DeleteGreat stuff Jon, I like how the colors turned out.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jake!
DeleteLovely work Jonathan. There is something genuinely appealing about the Bavarian army in those cornflower blue coats, or is it those checkered standards? Napoleonic Bavarians have always appealed, but one of the regulars in the group already has a large collection.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mark! The cornflower blue coat does it for me too. For the Napoleonic Bavarians, the addition of the Raupenhelm makes the Bavarian uniform without equal for infantry.
DeleteA great job on a most handsome uniform. I suppose it would come as no surprise that the Bavarians were the second Napoleonic troops I painted after the French!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter!
DeleteHaving Napoleonic Bavarians in the top of the painting queue would be no surprise to me. Bavarians were number three for me when I began 15mm Napoleonics; after French and Austrians.
Say, is your Blunders on the Danube scenario book still available?
Nice work Jonathan beautiful colours
ReplyDeleteThis is a pleasing color combination.
DeleteCracking looking regiment!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThese stand out for sure with that nice light blue uniform. Easy to target too I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteGood targets, for sure! The crossing of the white crossbelts over the heart provides a good spot on which to focus too.
