28mm Reconquista - BTD Crossbowmen

More Muslims from BTD's Warriors of Islam range muster out from the painting desk.  This time, one Impetvs-sized unit of crossbowmen.  As mentioned before, a really handsome looking line of figures.  Note for this stand, I provided protection to the slow-loading, vulnerable to cavalry, crossbowmen in the form of two, flanking spearmen.

I opted for the 'T' type (missile troop) basing rather than the 'S' (skirmish type) basing.  'T' based crossbowmen carry a bit more punch, are a little less disciplined, and move a little more slowly than the 'S' crossbowmen.  Since most of the Impetvs lists allow crossbowmen to be fielded as either missile or skirmish, my next batch of crossbowmen may be built as skirmishers to provide variety.  If built as skirmishers, I would mount four figures per base.

  2. Another great unit, Jonathan! I love the Spearmen mixed in and protecting the crossbowmen. The large basing gives you many more options over the traditional basing.

I did a "first try" review of Impetus below. Hope it whets your appetite for the fun that's coming once you get to play Impetus. http://twincitiesfieldofglory.blogspot.com/2012/01/impetus-test-drive.html

    1. Thanks, Monty! This is a fun diversion. Very good BatRep of your first Impetvs game. I enjoyed reading it. Have you given up on Impetvs?

    2. I couldn't get a fire lit within our ancients group. They're firmly set on Field of Glory. I have a friend who will play Impetus but only in 28mm and my only 28mm armies are Saga skirmish warbands.

Your project makes me want to get Impetus back on the gaming card again. Fingers crossed!

  3. Nice mix of colors, Jon, and I especially like the floral design on that one shirt.

    1. Thanks, Scott. The floral design was a test. I liked how it turned out so you will likely see more in the mix.
