More SAW US Marines

Following close in step behind the US Marines posted yesterday, a second battalion of US Marines departs from the painting desk.  As the marines posted yesterday, these figures are manufactured by Old Glory.  With these fifteen figures hitting the storage box, nine battalions of US infantry can be mustered for a game against six Spanish battalions.  At a 3:2 ratio, that might be getting close to the proper mix for decent game.

Time to shift gears to another project but what?

  1. Great looking figures, never played this period either. What rules are you using?

    1. I forget what rules we used when we last played but my plan is to give Fields of Honor a try initially.

  2. A smart looking unit. I especially like the red Marine Corps flag!

Next era - you have so many in progress. haven't done much with the Ancient armies or Samurai lately...

    1. The red Marine corps flag is eye-catching, for sure.

As for units on the desk, you read my mind. I have an ancients unit on the painting desk and Samurai primed and ready to go.

  3. Very decent sized collection Jon - it always nice to reach a mile stone in a project. Up next, well why not do something on the SYW project? Didn't you have some Minden miniatures in the pile.

    1. Soren! The Mindens have not been forgotten. I primed a battalion's worth of figures last week in anticipation of getting them into the painting queue.

  4. Excellent work. There is always mounted cavalry.... Parker's Gatling Battery? Mountain howitzers or dynamite guns?

    2. Every time you post new SAW figs, I am reminded of all of my own unpainted US Infantry.

    3. And every time you post progress on your 10mm ACW project, I am reminded of the work remaining on my own 10mm ACW project. For me, dismounted cavalry are still lacking.

  5. Very nicely done Jonathan on a period not often covered.

    1. True. You do not often see the SAW gamed. Even the Yahoo Group supporting the war does not see much action. Perhaps that would change if I posted a BatRep or two?

  6. The colours are a great addition to the troops, Jonathan!

  7. Wow! I’m impressed! Where have you learned to do that? I’m working in writing servicebut want to change my occupation, maybe I’ll do something connected with desktop games. I would like to take part in the process of it development!

    1. Learned? Trial and error, and a lot of repetition.
