Out from the painting workbench today are 28 Babylonian spearmen distributed across two, fourteen figure stands. Figures are Wargames Foundry. These fellas muster out to augment my growing army of Babylonians. More bowmen are working their way through the painting queue but have yet to see a lick of paint.
What are ahead of the bowmen in queue? Well, while Biblicals continue to feature prominently, I see 18mm Hanoverian cavalry, 18mm FRW infantry, and 25mm Crimean War Russian infantry. All are awaiting their turn in the photo booth.
The Battle of Fornovo continues to feature on the gaming table with a one-on-one F2F game on Saturday and a four-player remote game on Monday. Saturday's battle saw the French absolutely stomp the Italians while readers must wait for the battle report to see the outcome of Monday's game. For now, I will only say that the game was great fun.

25mm Crimean. Don't think I've seen you feature a battle from that war before. Interesting to see.
ReplyDeleteWell, the Russians will not be utilized in the Crimean War. That explains why they have not been featured! The Russians are used in a Great Game project against Afghans, Indians, assorted Natives, and British.
DeleteBrilliant Babylonians and an intriguing use of the Crimean Russians.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Phil! The Russians ought to find a place on the table someday.
DeleteLovely work as always Jon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mark! Missed you in Monday's game.
DeleteThe Babylonians look stunning and like others, I find the mention of Crimean Russians intriguing.... have you played games of The Great Game, or is it still just a nascent idea?
ReplyDeleteKeith, you are most kind! My Russians have seen action against the British one time only and that was many years ago. When time permits, I ought to schedule Russians vs Natives in a small game. I wonder if I could drum up any takers for something like this?
DeleteCould be fun.
DeleteCould be!
DeleteWhen we're you looking at this to happen.? Maybe something we could collaborate on.
DeleteNo immediate plans to bring them to the table. I will give this some thought but I have not picked a set of rules yet.
DeleteI like the look of the Babylonians, very colourful
ReplyDeleteThanks, Neil! They are a colorful lot.
DeleteLovely Babylonians, and I too am looking forward to seeing your 25mm Crimean Russians, and also the straddle cars when they make their way into the photo booth.
ReplyDeleteThanks! These units will be showing up in good time after I clear the deck of a few other tasks.
DeleteThey look fab, Jon!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray!
Deletegood looking babels.. though some seem to be glancing to the left with a worried expression. something bad must of happened over there. or maybe just tired of looking at that severed head?
ReplyDeleteBack in the top 10 commentors baby! 😁😁
Thank you! Your return to the Top 10 did not go unnoticed. Back into the Charts with a bullet!
DeleteI somehow snuck in there while you were away, Stew..
DeleteDavid, you did indeed sneak into the Top 10!
DeleteI’m gunning for you David. Watch out. 😝😀
DeleteStew I think they are just looking around to see if anyone has lost their head 😁
DeleteGreat looking figures Jonathan.
I would mention my position in the comments page....but modesty forbids!
DeleteAnd it's adding superfluous extra comments like this that got me there 😆
DeleteThanks, Ben!
DeleteKeith, you certainly know how to play the game.
DeleteStew, at this rate, you’ll be there in no time.
DeleteToo right JF. And I’ll do it without adding superfluous comments unlike some people….😝😀
DeleteAll my comments will be relevant to the topic. Like this one. 😀
And this one. 😝😀
Delete(I could go on of course lol)
Of course!
DeleteThey do say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery Stew - so, thank you!
DeleteGreat looking bunch of mean so-and-sos Jon.
ReplyDeleteThe Great Game project sounds intriguing. Mid-19thC Cold War Gone Hot?
Thanks, Chris! Yes, mid-19th Century Cold War gone hot or at least luke warm.
DeleteBabylonians look great, Jon! 'A little bird told me' the result of Monday's game ( and that it was good fun ) - I look forward to the AAR to see how it compared with the last one..
ReplyDeleteThank you, David! Monday's game saw a much different Italian strategy. If you have been talking to Chris, he probably told his side of the dice throwing woes. There were times we were all laughing so hard and his enemy was actually rooting for him to succeed.
DeleteColorful Babylonian troops. But no chariots! Ancient armies are always good spectacle, these are no exception.
ReplyDeleteFornovo is a great battle with lots of potential play options. I really like the idea of Russian adventures in the Grest Game. Should be fun.
No chariots today but plenty of colorful shields. With three Fornovo battles, thus far, all have been very enjoyable. A fourth Fornovo battle is on deck next week.
DeleteThey are very colourful Jonathan. I have similar figures in the pile with an intent they ar epart of a larger Assyrian army .... one day.
ReplyDeleteRichard
Richard, my Babylonians began as a supplement to an Assyrian Army. Now I have enough such that the Babylonians can field their own army.
DeleteI like those Babylonians a lot, very nice unit and will look forward to seeing the archers when they are painted up.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donnie! I showed some Babylonian archers not that long ago.
DeleteLovely, your colour palette for your ancients is both gentle and vibrant ….. a great look.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, Norm!
DeleteThe colourful shields certainly add to the look of the unit.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly do!
DeleteExcellent looking unit Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thank you!
DeleteThe Babylonians look the part, Jon. It's always a treat to see the renaissance figures on the table.!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Scott! It is a treat to have them back out on the table!
DeleteLovely looking Babylonians! Crimean war Russians sounds fun and looking forward to Fornova 2/3 , whatever!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain caveadsum1471
Thanks, Iain! Fornova #3 is up next. I took no photos of Game #2.
DeleteTwo lovely units there and love the muted colour scheme, which seems very natural earth pigments to me. The Fornovo game looks great and await the AAR with interest:).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steve! The Fornovo game with Chris and The Rejects was really great fun. I will begin working on a battle report soon. Perhaps by Friday?
DeleteQuite a span of periods mentioned here, between the painting que and the Fornovo game. Seems to me an excellent illustration of how historical gaming provides more "lore" than any "alt" game system can deliver.
ReplyDeleteWith history offering so much variety and fascinating situations, one never needs to look into "alt" anything. Well, I don't.
DeleteYour Babylonians are looking excelent. It's not my period but I do admire how you follow your projects.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLovely looking Babylonians Jonathan…
ReplyDeleteIt’s good to see you still have a very healthy butterfly 🦋😁
All the best v Aly
Thank you, Aly! Butterfly? Who me?
DeleteBeautiful Babylonians. I especially like the largely subdued hues you used for their shields.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Peter!
