Back to Biblicals

While armies were engaged in a heated, yet collegial, battle on the table yesterday on the field of Bassignana, today sees a return to the painting desk.  The painting desk also sees a return to mustering more Biblicals in 25mm.
Out from the painting desk are two stands of Chaldean archers, each of nine bowmen.  Figures are Newline Designs.  I enjoy painting Newline figures for their understated simplicity and quick to field nature.  When I want to pick up the production and get some bang for the buck, I pull out a handful of Newline Biblicals.  Always a pleasure to paint.
Speaking of picking up the pace at the painting desk, painting sees an uptick in output with May benchwork making an attempt to push more lead across the work desk.  Currently, there are 46 18mm WAS Genoese just about to ready for basing.  Whether these figures make it into May totals or slide into June counts is still in question.  If finished today, May numbers will look quite good.  If not today, well, I have a good jump on June.
I leave with a teaser photo from Thursday's Bassignana game.

  1. I have a soft spot for Ancients, that's my favorite period, and your figures are always a pleasure for the eyes.

    1. Thanks, Neil. Reviews can be mixed on Newline Designs' figures. See the other Neil's comment below.

  3. You have made a nice job of those. I have some reservations about Newline; they always look a bit "wooden" to me. I think they look best when mixed with other manufacturers like here:

    1. Thanks, Neil. The sculpts may look a bit wooden and poses limited but I like them. I especially appreciate their durability and price. I do not often mix and match different manufacturers. Perhaps I should give it a try?

  7. They look great as usual Jonathan. There is nothing like enjoying painting a particular range of figures to lift the rate of output.

    1. You are very kind! Some figures are easier to paint than others and these fit the bill.

  9. As always some fine looking and painted Biblical archers. Do you vary the number of figures per base based on the look or a set number for unit type?

    1. Thanks, Peter! I vary the number of figures on each stand based upon troop type.

  10. You don’t let the grass grow under your feet do you! Another fine pair of stands.
I must say I like seeing the photos of your WAS troops as my signal isn’t always the best on ‘games nights’. The flags look the bee’s knees. Can’t wait to see the Genoese. Neapolitans to come? 😉

    1. Chris, it is too bad about the video quality during games. My outgoing webcam feeds and your incoming video feed looks good from my end. No one else mentioned any video degradation but maybe they were all too polite to say anything. Next time you have problems, let's stop and try to troubleshoot to see if it is on my end.

I know that will my cameras positioned above each side of the table that the 15mm figures can be challenging to distinguish. Still, I monitor the quality throughout from my end and can see the webcams clearly.

Yes, I have more Spanish infantry as well as Genoese infantry in work.

  11. I can totally see how ancients would paint up faster being a much simpler kit / equipment. 😀

  12. Great figures as ever, Jon, not sure how you do it! Thursday's game was great too, your description of it as 'heated, yet collegial' is spot-on!

    1. Thanks, David! How do I do it? Try to paint a little, often. Unfortunately, “often” is becoming less frequent as a direct result of gaming.

Thursday’s game was really great fun. Maybe I can sit down to writing up a report on Sunday but we currently have house guests so that is in jeopardy.

  13. Splendid additions, the way you vary the tunic colours I have never really noticed the lack of variety in the pose.
