Out from the painting desk are two stands of Chaldean archers, each of nine bowmen. Figures are Newline Designs. I enjoy painting Newline figures for their understated simplicity and quick to field nature. When I want to pick up the production and get some bang for the buck, I pull out a handful of Newline Biblicals. Always a pleasure to paint.
Speaking of picking up the pace at the painting desk, painting sees an uptick in output with May benchwork making an attempt to push more lead across the work desk. Currently, there are 46 18mm WAS Genoese just about to ready for basing. Whether these figures make it into May totals or slide into June counts is still in question. If finished today, May numbers will look quite good. If not today, well, I have a good jump on June.

I have a soft spot for Ancients, that's my favorite period, and your figures are always a pleasure for the eyes.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Your painting is always a pleasure to my eyes too.
DeleteNice to see you back painting biblical. I also agree Newline are great figures to paint
ReplyDeleteThanks, Neil. Reviews can be mixed on Newline Designs' figures. See the other Neil's comment below.
DeleteYou have made a nice job of those. I have some reservations about Newline; they always look a bit "wooden" to me. I think they look best when mixed with other manufacturers like here:

Neil
Thanks, Neil. The sculpts may look a bit wooden and poses limited but I like them. I especially appreciate their durability and price. I do not often mix and match different manufacturers. Perhaps I should give it a try?
DeleteAlways nice to see your Biblical collection Jon and they are a very nice addition. I like Newline figures and enjoy seeing them painted up.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donnie! Glad to see that I am not alone in liking Newline's figures.
DeleteNice looking archers Jonathan…
ReplyDeleteThe poses my be a bit limited but the upside of course is that they are quick and easy to paint…
All the best. Aly
Thank you, Aly! Being able to paint a figure efficiently is bonus in my Guide to Painting Figures.
DeleteGood looking unit Jon 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt!
DeleteSplendid looking archers Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sir!
DeleteThey look great as usual Jonathan. There is nothing like enjoying painting a particular range of figures to lift the rate of output.
ReplyDeleteYou are very kind! Some figures are easier to paint than others and these fit the bill.
DeleteVery nice looking units of Biblical archers, Jon.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them!
DeleteAs always some fine looking and painted Biblical archers. Do you vary the number of figures per base based on the look or a set number for unit type?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter! I vary the number of figures on each stand based upon troop type.
DeleteYou don’t let the grass grow under your feet do you! Another fine pair of stands.
ReplyDeleteI must say I like seeing the photos of your WAS troops as my signal isn’t always the best on ‘games nights’. The flags look the bee’s knees. Can’t wait to see the Genoese. Neapolitans to come? 😉
Chris/Nundanket.
Chris, it is too bad about the video quality during games. My outgoing webcam feeds and your incoming video feed looks good from my end. No one else mentioned any video degradation but maybe they were all too polite to say anything. Next time you have problems, let's stop and try to troubleshoot to see if it is on my end.
DeleteI know that will my cameras positioned above each side of the table that the 15mm figures can be challenging to distinguish. Still, I monitor the quality throughout from my end and can see the webcams clearly.
Yes, I have more Spanish infantry as well as Genoese infantry in work.
Picture quality all good at my end!
DeleteExcellent! Thanks for confirming.
DeleteBeautiful looking units Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI can totally see how ancients would paint up faster being a much simpler kit / equipment. 😀
ReplyDeleteThese certainly do.
DeleteGreat figures as ever, Jon, not sure how you do it! Thursday's game was great too, your description of it as 'heated, yet collegial' is spot-on!
ReplyDeleteThanks, David! How do I do it? Try to paint a little, often. Unfortunately, “often” is becoming less frequent as a direct result of gaming.
DeleteThursday’s game was really great fun. Maybe I can sit down to writing up a report on Sunday but we currently have house guests so that is in jeopardy.
Splendid additions, the way you vary the tunic colours I have never really noticed the lack of variety in the pose.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Phil!
DeleteGreat looking figures. Painted ancients, the chance to time travel. Your Newline figures will give you lots of of service on the table.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joe! With all of my collections, I can travel throughout time.
DeleteExcellent work on those Chaldeans Jon:). Looking forward to the WAS chaps and sounds like another good game was had by one and all.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve! Thursday’s game had a bit of a surprise ending.
DeleteChaldean archers certainly hit the mark!
ReplyDeleteGood one!
DeleteGreat looking archers Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thanks!
DeleteThese have painted up very nicely indeed.
ReplyDeleteAlan Tradgardland
Thanks, Alan!
DeleteLovely archers Jonathan. Looking forward to seeing the Bassignana game.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, Mark! I still need to find time to commit to writing up the latest Bassignana report.
DeleteNicely done Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteNice unit Jonathan. I am not familiar with Newline but they seem very nice, clean, and crisp sculpts.
ReplyDeleteThe sculpting tends toward a more rounded style but the figures are nice, clean, and crisply cast.
DeleteYour new troops are nice as always. But the teaser is looking even more exciting to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks, André! With houseguests this weekend, no time yet to hammer out a battle report.
DeleteMore crackin looking figures, Jon!!! Keep 'em comin'!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! More to come.
