Blogger seems to have lost the ability to pick up my post feed, and the thumbnail widget no longer appears in Blogs Followed widget.
This is a test as I troubleshoot. My previous post went almost completely unnoticed without the thumbnail "tickler" in the widget.
Jonathan,
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely something up with Blogger.
I noted on my blog that new posts were NOT appearing consistently at the top of my blog list. In some cases new posts were hidden among the blogs not shown, until you click "see more".
Confusingly, some new posts and associated blog jumped to top of the list, as your test post did. I was unaware of your previous post - which may explain the fall off in comments!
Neil
Thanks, Neil. Yeah, I reckon Blogger is having a moment. Luckily, my Test post appeared in the widget after some work, but without the thumbnail in the widget very few actually saw my Austrians!
DeleteSounds like an Austrian problem. The Mem would agree.
DeletePerhaps it was an Austrian problem!
DeleteDid the same with my last post. I looked at all the possible fixes and nothing worked, so I did what I always do with work problems and gave up. 24 hours later it sorted itself out.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see that I was not the only victim, but many other bloggers' effort continued to come through. Misery loves company, you know. I cannot give up on something that annoys me...
DeleteI find Sir Humphrey’s “masterful inactivity” is sometimes the best course of action!
DeleteSometimes, it is!
DeleteMy Latest blog post seems to be doing exactly the same thing - did you find a fix or did it just work eventually?
ReplyDeletehttps://littlewars1913.blogspot.com/2026/05/is-it-really-inertia-to-stick-to-what_01027316165.html
Good question, Mike! Did I actually do anything useful in testing or did it simply resolve itself?
DeleteFirst, I validated the feed (https://validator.w3.org/feed/) and then changed from Atom to RSS to see if that made a difference. Then, I changed the feed back to the original URL and the thumbnail appeared. Now, did the widget grab the RSS change or the original? The proof will be if my next post appears as expected. As Michal notes in his comment below, sometimes it takes hours for a thumbnail to appear in the widget as there can be a HUGE lag between blogger widget refreshes. My previous post NEVER appeared in the widget even after more than a day in waiting.
Thanks John - one thing that solved the thumbnail problem was removing excess formatting. I made a mistake of posting the content from a word doc (as it was a fairly wordy entry) rather than pasting into notepad and then blogger to remove the formatting.
DeleteStill not showing up on blogrolls - I have tried adding a jump break and removed the ? from the title to see if that helps...
Mike, I added your blog to my blogroll. I will keep an eye out. Did you try RSS as a feed type?
DeleteHi, there's a general problem with post visibility. I'm seeing it on mine and others too. Sometimes posts appear in the "blog list" after a few hours...
ReplyDeleteYeah, there seems to be a general problem with some blogs but not others. Very curious. I agree that widget population can take hours post-publication to appear. Annoying.
DeleteYep, same here a problem across the board it appears. Norm's post yesterday appeared but others haven't including yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks for confirming, Phil! Nice Partizan photos!
DeleteWell first of loved the sunset or sunrise photo! As for Blogger, when I check for new posts from the Blogs I follow, they don't always appear, sometimes a day or so later, which means they might be missed. I now tend to scroll down the list just in case...
ReplyDeleteSteve, that was a sunset looking over the Pacific. I agree that blogs can sometimes take FOREVER to appear in the Blogs Followed widget. My previous post NEVER made it to the widget.
DeleteMy latest post from about 12 hours ago hasn't appeared yet. It seems Mark aka JBM is having problems too en France. The wonders of technology... :(.
DeleteYes, I still see complaints about long delays. We will see how I fare on my next post.
DeleteJon, i had the same problem with my previous post, it took around 4 hours to start showing. My recent show post seems to have gone through fine.
ReplyDeleteYour post is showing on my feed fine, though I don’t know whether there was a delay between posting and displaying.
Perhaps blogger is lagging behind the recent updates that Operating Systems have been having and it will all sort itself out in a few days …… if it hasn’t already!
Thanks, Norm, for confirming. I waited almost two days for my previous post to materialize in the widget, and it never popped up so I took matters into my own hands to explore why. This post appeared only a few minutes after posting so, "hopefully" the issue is resolved. I will find out with my next post.
DeleteI wonder if this was an update issue that was only addressed after the weekend?
Lovely pic. Your Austrian post didn't appear at all in my blog roll (just seen your lovely troops). This one appeared as one should expect.
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful sunset, for sure. My Austrian post did not appear in my widget either. EVER. With luck, everything is back in working order.
DeleteThis one turned up OK, but I noticed that all the WordPress sites I follow in blogger vanished days ago. I only noticed as I get email notifications from some of them.
ReplyDeleteToday's post appeared as expected but the previous post never showed up. Interesting about Wordpress blogs not populating the widget.
DeleteBlogger feels increasingly random although at the moment the only problem I have is the system won’t notify me when people post so I have to keep checking ! Good luck Jon
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt!
DeleteI have noticed this before with blogger, it is a bit of a nuisance to say the least, hopefully it has sorted itself out.
ReplyDeleteA bit of a nuisance, for sure! I thought if this is the way forward, I might consider going private.
DeleteThis post popped up on my feed like usual, so I guess all back to normal now @ 10:05 PST?
ReplyDeleteWell, I certainly hope all is back to normal!
DeleteThumbnail and post update showed on my blog (lovely sunset).
ReplyDeleteThanks for confirming, Ed! I bet you did not see the earlier Austrian infantry post.
DeleteYep: that one did go bye, but you're back on track now (at least).
DeleteAt least for now.
DeleteThis has happened with my last two posts. The penultimate post took seventy-two hours to be picked up and the last one was much quicker at what seemed to be twelve hours or so. Nothing about it on any forums except that people were saying it could be a result of not posting often enough. Obviously in your case a hundred or so posts a year is not cutting it so perhaps you should up your game to five times a week? There is always something new and exciting to uncover with Blogger. I'm off to look at some lovely Austrians now.
ReplyDeletePosted after 72 hours? I gave up after 24 and took matters into my own hands to try to remedy the situation. Not posting often enough is an interesting take on the situation. Does blogger monitor and adjust publication lag due to time between postings? Very interesting. Glad you approve of my latest Austrians!
DeleteA few forums indicated that the frequency of posting can determine how often the Google bot will pick up the new posting on the site. I had always assumed it was instantaneous until this happened to me and since it had been a month between posts I assumed that could be the explanation, but when I see that it has happened to you given the frequency in which you post and your usual number of hits I now have my doubts.
DeleteInteresting.
DeleteSame here Jon, looks like Bloggers playing up.....again!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! Misery loves company, you know.
DeleteThere must be a new paid service coming, and Blogger is trying to make us all use it before deleting 'everything'. ;(
ReplyDeleteBefore all is deleted, I hope we are given a little heads-up!
DeleteYour not alone Jonathan. Hopefully Blogger gets this sorted.
ReplyDeleteGood that this issue is not isolated. Maybe something will be done to correct it. Some blogs have been unaffected while others have. I wonder why?
DeleteLovely picture, I think Im as random as blogger and mostly notice very little, especially as it usually sorts itself out after a while, my own luddite approach Im afraid!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Luddite or optimist?
DeleteGreat photo! Jeepers, I don't look at the blogs for a period greater than two days and miss all this.
ReplyDeleteYou and me bothJoe!
DeleteBest Iain
The sunset is striking, isn’t it? Had you posted and not seen your post published to the widget, you would have wondered what was going on as well.
DeleteMe too...the silence by lack of comments to my post of Monday is deafening...
ReplyDeleteI just checked your Blog Mark and the last post I can see is from 5 days ago, the one with the French Generals...
DeleteI know the feeling although activity has picked up now.
DeleteI posted this one on Monday (NZ time) https://stracmark.blogspot.com/2026/05/back-down-south-again.html. I will wait and see how long it takes to appear.
DeleteMark, that is really frustrating. I waited more than a day for my Austrian post to show up. It never did appear on the widget. Then, I posted this post.
DeleteLike you, I resolved the issue by changing the RSS feed. I have another post ready to go tomorrow so let's see if it works.
DeleteFingers crossed!
DeleteNope...isn't showing...
DeleteRats! I plan to try a new post on Thursday and see what happens.
Delete...but it turned up after about two hours.
DeleteTwo hours is much better than two days!
DeleteLooks lije normal service has been restored. My last post appeared instantaneously on various blog rolls.
DeleteI hope you are correct!
DeleteI've noticed blogs missing in my feed, which is annoying as I've missed a few posts
ReplyDeleteThanks for confirming, Neil!
DeleteJon, I posted 8 hours ago and so far it has not popped up anywhere, so the problem is ongoing.
ReplyDeleteOnly good thing …. My spammer doesn’t know I’ve posted either :-)
DeleteI have just reverted my post back to a draft and then republished, so we will see how that goes, I can’t think of any other way that might ‘reboot’ it.
DeleteThanks for the update, Norm. I will keep an eye out to see if your latest post sees success. Keep us posted. I rarely get a hit from SPAMMERS anymore. The only one that hits with some regularity is "Movie" but Blogger always flags that one and sends it directly to Junk.
DeleteI note I am through on a couple of other blogs, but not yours yet. Where I have shown up, it is listing my post as being 12 hours ago, which is correct.
DeleteI don’t know whether the post naturally appeared or whether reverting to draft and then back to posted, gave it any kind of kickstart.
Your post appeared in my blogroll with a publishing time of 14 hours ago. Long lag but at least it made it!
DeleteWell you certainly seemed to touch a nerve with this post, Jon....one of the biggest comment counts this year!
ReplyDeleteThe comment count is certainly getting up there! You may not remember the post on wargaming and blogging but it saw 136 comments.
DeleteAnd in breaking news - I just posted a few minutes ago but there is no sign of it in you "Blogs Followed" as yet.....
ReplyDeleteI see it now!
