On the Game Table Today

On the gaming table today is the AWI Battle of Brandywine.  The focus of today's action is Knyphausen's attack on the American positions along Brandywine Creek.

Maxwell's Light Infantry cover the approaches to the creek.
Greene's Division defends Chadd's Ford
Sullivan's Division defends Brinton's Ford
The game is setup for four players in a remote contest.

Can the Rebels block Knyphausen's Division from crossing Brandywine Creek in strength?
Will Kynphausen brush aside the Rebel rabble and move to entrap the Americans between himself and Howe?
Will anyone show up?

When the smoke clears, we will have an answer.

  2. This looks like an interesting scenario for all involved and am certainly looking forward to the AAR. Do the higher hexes block line of sight, impede movement etc?

    1. Steve, my goal is to provide all players with challenges. Hopefully, not too challenging for some.

While the higher hexes block line of sight, movement is not affected. Attacking uphill is a penalty, though.

    1. Thank you, John. Let's hope Knyphausen makes more progress in this game. Forcing the fords may be tough. Not too tough, though.

  5. Nice to see this smaller section of the full battle played …. Very do-able for more gamers.

  6. This will be great Jon - I think Brandywine is my favouite AWI battle - I wrote a scenario for it years ago that we played, with all sorts of confusing intelligence coming in to the American commanders, giving them conflicting reports about where the British were and in what strength - great fun! I think in our game, Knyphausen was just fighting a holding action to keep the Americans watching the wrong part of the battlefield....

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Keith!

For confusing intel, I leave that confusion in the players' hands. If I was recreating the full battle, the game would likely be following your lead. In today's battle, Knyphausen wants to force the creek.
