With the tree standing guard in the library and stockings hanging heavily by the fireplace, I await the activities of the day. For my wife and I, Christmas Day consists of two assaults. The first assault comes ashore at 0900 as children, spouses, and grand kids arrive for a morning of exchanging gifts and Christmas breakfast. For breakfast, I am on duty as short-order cook as I prepare made-to-order omelettes for the breakfast bar. After Wave One activities subside, we clear the decks to prepare for Wave Two. The second assault commences Christmas evening with our traditional Christmas dinner when family and friends reconvene.
Today will be a busy day filled with festivities and preparation. For now, however, a few hours of solitude remain before the house awakens. Just enough time for an enjoyable and quiet session at the painting desk.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
Merry Christmas Jonathan!

ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a busy but joyous day, Jon. We celebrate mostly on Christmas Eve,so after a few additional gifts this AM (and out traditional Christmas AM breakfast of cream puffs and Champagne), we get to just chill out - much needed!
ReplyDeleteHave wonderful Christmas with your friends and family, Jon!
Busy, for sure, Peter! I could see that Christmas Eve celebration might carry some advantages. I like your ability to chill-out on Christmas Day. Something missed by me yesterday but it was all fun!
DeleteFantastic Xmas day!
ReplyDeleteMerry C hristmas to you and yours
Beautiful image, Jonathan! Love the tree and bright library. Looks so inviting - wishing you and your family a wonder Christmas days!
ReplyDeleteP.S. omelets to order sounds great!
Dean, besides the game room, the library is a favorite place for me. The Christmas tree with its trimmings make the room even more inviting.
DeleteLooks delightful. Hope you weather both assault waves. Merry Christmas to you and yours. I like my omelet with spinach and feta, by the way.
ReplyDeleteMichael, appreciate your concern for my survival! Weathered both Christmas Day waves with another wave Saturday night. as for omelettes, feta was among the long list of ingredients but, sorry, no spinach.
DeleteMerry Christrmas!
ReplyDeleteThe omelettes sound especially good - Merry Christmas. This year, through an onset of force majeur, we had our main Christmas meal in the evening for the first time in many years, and it is a far better plan. The number of delectable Christmas afternoon teas I've declined over the years is a sadness to me!
ReplyDeleteAs Gonsalvo mentioned above, seems many have their main Christmas meal on Christmas Eve. That schedule certainly reduces effort on Christmas Day wherein we had two large meals to prepare.
DeleteI may suggest we attempt such schedule change.
Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Jonathan! Sounds like a good one for you and yours!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSounds a busy, but fun day, have a great Christmas!
ReplyDeleteBusy and fun; both counts true!
DeleteI'm a bit late, so...I wish you an excellent end of year!
ReplyDeleteHi Jonathan, Hope you had a great Christmas Day and wishing you and yours a happy holiday.
ReplyDeleteHope you had an amazing Christmas! And a Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Jonathan. I love the idea of the omelette bar. I'll have to keep that in mind for when the kids are out of the house.
ReplyDeleteAaron, the omelette bar was well received and my long ago skill of flipping omelettes has not been forgotten. Guests were quite impressed! It was fun!
DeleteMerry Christmas and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely day. Mine was too busy for gaming, but I got a week in later when family went on holiday to warm climes without me.
After the pre-dawn quiet, my day was quite busy too. Your family left you alone for a week?
