More Hittites

With summer just kicking off and the month of June winding down, activities on the hobby front are seeing signs of renewed life.  From May's low figure count in the Painting Log, June will see a marked uptick in output.  Not quite a hundred figures will pass out from the painting desk but it may be close.  Still one week to go before closing the books on June.
With two games last week and one game yesterday, gaming is starting to work its way back on track too.  All three games were refights of the WotR Battle of Mortimer's Cross.  The first was a F2F game chronicled here.  The second was a remote game with Peter and the third was a four-player remote game with the Rejects.  Games 2 and 3 are yet to be chronicled.

Anyway, back to the painting desk.  Mustering out today is another body of Hittite spearmen.  These fourteen figures are mostly Wargames Foundry with the odd Newline Design figure tossed in for good measure.  A return to the SYW/WAS may be out next from the photo booth.
Weather has been good on the Palouse and outdoor cycling has picked up accordingly.  While my lingering and annoying cold/flu bug has forced continued workouts on the indoor trainer, mileage outside increases.  Late spring and early summer are colorful times with the bright yellow blooms of rapeseed blanketing the landscape.  Seems many more fields of yellow this year than in recent years.  Nice contrast to the blue sky and the green, forested hills.
Next time, hopefully a battle report!

  1. Dear Sir,
Yet again I have received a complaint on working practices in your basement; the Employees Living Vicariously Engaged Studiously in turning out painted miniatures have hereby informed me of their intention to form a union:
Painting Elves Reject Jonathan's Unfair Restrictive Yoke.
They demand pay, holidays, sickness provision and many other things - failure to meet their demands may result in "Old Stinky" once more breathing on you while you sleep, resulting in your contamination with unknown elvish viruses.
    You have been warned!

  4. Hittites look good, ( 100 figures when sick - is still about 100 more than me this month!), and the Palouse summer landscape looks great - we have the same rapeseed crops, but probably much smaller expanses!
I look forward to battle reports, especially the Rejects..

    1. Thank you, David! Both battles were very interesting and fun. All players figured out tactics and the decision matrix quickly. Next time they take to the table, I expect more hotly contested action.

  6. Some great games on the table there Jonathan and fine Hittite additions, your collection must be classed has biblical worthy of a De Mille epic by now. I like the outdoor photo, although rapeseed plays hell with my hay fever.

    1. Thank you, Phil, and especially for identifying yourself! The rapeseed wreaks havoc on many here too. I should pull the Biblicals out for a parade to see exactly what I’ve done.

  8. The Hittites are looking good. You must get through a lot of grass tuffs with your basing of units which look great.

    1. Thanks, Peter! I do go through a lot of tufts, no question about that.

  14. I recall the distinctive look and feel of the late spring/early summer in Eastern Washington from my time training at the Yakima Firing Center: very nice. Good to see you getting out and on the road again--and always good to see your varied painting output (Hittites to SYW: who says historicals are boring?).

    1. Yakima can get darn hot in the height of summer so late spring/early summer is a pleasant time to visit that part of the state. Bored? How can anyone be bored in this hobby?

  15. yay for summer increases! About a hundred figures for the month is about 80 more than I managed, but who's counting? 😁 Well that's me. I counted. But just this once! Unless Quar count for more?

And as always, I envy your gaming schedule, the number of games and with different groups of people as well.

    1. Stew, you may count how you wish! I count everything as '1' including foot, horse, artillery, etc.. as for envy, no need for that. You could do the same.
