By my count, the painted collection contains 374 foot, 66 horse, and 5 guns. The collection fields figures from Old Glory, Perry, Wargames Foundry, Casting Room Miniatures, and TAG. Did I miss anyone? Enough figures remain in The Lead Pile to muster several more units including two units of Gendarmes, crossbowmen, arquebusiers, and at least three more massive pike blocks. For now, there is no hurry to add to the collection. Still, a stray unit or two may occasionally work its way into the painting queue.
On to the parade review...
Back into the boxes they go! Planning begins for the next battle.
WOW! Plenty of lovely looking miniatures! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis has become a fine collection over time. hanks for your comment, Dmitry!
DeleteSpectacular and beautiful parade, what a collection!!
ReplyDeleteEveryone loves a parade!@
DeleteA wonderful and colourful collection of figures you have there, and all no doubt painted to your high standard.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter!
DeleteBeautiful looking armies Jonathan! Look forward to seeing them in action again soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith! I look forward to a return to the table too. It may be a while but I want to give them a run-out using Impetvs as a comparison with TtS!
DeleteAll that's missing is a pic of you, in costume, on the reviewing stand, displaying stern pleasure at the quality of your troops ;)
ReplyDeleteI need to get me costume designers to work!
DeleteA really nice cohesive look with the basing bringing them all together visually. The pike are my favourite.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, Norm! The pikes are my favorites as well although the Gendarmes are a close second.
DeleteA fine show indeed! In the words of the late Charlie Sweet - "The Pikes are the Queens of the chessboard in this era!"
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, Peter! I agree with Mr. Sweet!
DeleteVery smart!!!
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteImpressive collection! And very colourful, as a proper Italian renaissance army should be.
ReplyDeleteThey are a colorful lot, for sure!
Deletetwo thumbs up! I see you Jon :o) riding your horse inspecting your units/army on parade...
ReplyDeleteThanks! Some of these foot figures ought to look familiar.
DeleteI do recognize some pikemen, skirmishers and artillery?... anyway,, they all look great!
DeleteIt's very impressive, Jonathan. I always enjoy getting one of my armies all on the table for a review, it's encouraging to see how our plans have progressed. As always I'm impressed by your output.
ReplyDeleteAll armies deserve a trip out for a parade review from time to time. As you say, the display is a great means of assessing how far one has come. It also may highlight how far one has left to travel too!
DeleteThey look lovely Jonathan. I keep promising to do something similar but it will remind me of just how figures Ive painted and yet to use. But well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robbie! Discovering the number of figures painted but not used is better than seeing the number of figures still needing a slap of paint!
DeleteGreat looking group. I missed at what point your collection exceeded and then blasted past my own. We could probably pull off some sizable battles between the two forces.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jake!
DeleteWe could fight some huge battle, indeed, by joining forces. It is surprising how the figure count creeps up on you seemingly unnoticed when you steadily plug away at The Lead Pile.
What a good idea--seeing a complete collection is always inspiring, and they'll always be on parade now, even when they're tucked away in storage.
ReplyDeleteHi Ed! One needs some positive reinforcement from time-to-time for motivation to keep plugging away. Now, I can see at a glance what I have and what I need.
DeleteI love a military parade! A nice collection of painted figures to be proud of! 😀
ReplyDeleteI love a parade too! Thanks, Stew!
DeleteLord have mercy, they are lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt is a colorful mass, for sure! Thank you, Steve.
DeleteAlways good to see a parade, especially an Italian wars one, simply marvelous!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Iain, I thought you might enjoy this Renaissance demonstration.
DeleteFantastic I love a good parade......it is very inspirational only us gamers could understand the effort you have put in to get such a lovely army. Very impressive and more to come 😀
ReplyDeleteMatt, a lot of time and effort went into this project and it is always rewarding to get a new collection out onto the gaming table. I got four games out of the Maisnon battle so am beginning to realign the effort/game ratio!
DeleteCracking collection!
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, Fran!
DeleteA beautiful collection of models!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michal!
DeleteVery colourful and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe colors and banners are eye-catching.
DeleteI love a parade, the tramping of feet,
ReplyDeleteI love every beat I hear of a drum.
I love a parade, when I hear a band
I just want to stand and cheer as they come.
That rat-a tat-tat, the blare of a horn.
That rat-a tat-tat, a bright uniform;
The sight of a drill will give me a thrill,
I thrill at the skill of everything military.
I love a parade, a handful of vets,
A line of cadets or any brigade,
For I love a parade.
Recited from memory?
DeleteSplendid Jonathan...
ReplyDeleteI love all the standards ... fluttering like multicoloured butterfly wings.
All the best. Aly
Thanks, Aly! The banners add a lot to the overall visual effect.
DeleteGreat work Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paul!
DeleteA terrific collection and, as you say, the fact that a lot of them were already out for a game makes the parade so much easier. Very impressive.
ReplyDeleteYes, much easier to form up a parade when most of the troops are already out on the parade ground. Glad you enjoyed the display!
DeleteAlways fancied the Italian Wars but never got round to it. Nice troops.
ReplyDeleteThanks, George! Never too late to start!
DeleteFantastic looking parade of troops Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Glad you like the parade!
DeleteGreat work
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteAwesome post Jonathan, the collection looks bloody brilliant all set up. I love how you have all the different troop types covered - different pike blocks, various types of light and heavy cavalry, the skirmishing infantry and the artillery. I think my favourite are your pike blocks, nothing beats a formidable looking block of pike!
ReplyDeleteThanks ,Oli!
DeleteMy collection pales in comparison to your marvelous collection but as Teddy Roosevelt, said, "Comparison is the thief of joy."
The pike blocks are definitely queen of the battlefield.
That is superb Jonathan, but I couldn't see the band with the 76 trombones!
ReplyDeleteNo trombones in this parade!
DeleteA great idea and a spectacular review! Like many others , the pike blocks are my fav 😎. They look even better from the side when you see their colours flying.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the review! The pike blocks are hard not to like. I agree that seeing all of the banners unfurled is a enjoyable sight.
DeleteCracking Army Johnathon, leaves my French a long way behind!
ReplyDeleteCheers
Matt
Thank you, Matt!
DeleteGadzooks! That is quite the collection! So beautifully painted and based! I love all the flags!
ReplyDeleteTim, the Great Italian Wars is a colorful period to collect. Glad you like it!
