Bavarian Preysing Musketeer Rgt Bn 1

Having enjoyed painting a battalion of Lancashire Games' SYW Austrians as Bavarians recently (see Morawitzky Battalion), another battalion of the same was pushed up into the painting queue.
Today sees the 1st Battalion of the Bavarian Musketeer Regiment Preysing step off the painting desk.  These 22 musketeers are, again, from the superb stable of Lancashire Games' 15mm SYW figures with a Eureka mounted officer leading them into battle.  The cornflower blue coat with red facings is another handsome combination to my eye.
Super figures with enough raised detail that painting becomes a snap.  Battalion #2 of Preysing will not be far behind in the painting queue.  Given that these figures and uniforms produce such handsome battalions, another order was sent out to bring in a few more recruits.  I know, it never seems to end.

    1. Thanks, Dmitry! Not sure when these lads will make it into a game. So many games, so little time...

  6. Yep, that cornflower blue and the contrasting brick red really work:).

  7. A nice looking unit and an interesting expansion in the project. Is there another battle you are moving towards?

  8. I like them a lot - very regimented, proper, and colourful, as is typical of your work.
I am too lazy to google this - who did the Bavs fight for in the SYW? Were they allies of Frederick?

    1. Thank you, Michael!

The Bavarians fought alongside the Austrians during the SYW and financed by the French.

  10. Very nice. I always think sky/light blue makes for a nice uniform, and is one of the more satisfying colours to apply.

    1. Thank you, Lawrence. The mid-blue of the Bavarian coat is perfect visually. As for painting, the mid-blue covers well too. That is a bonus.

  11. Well done! I agree with Lawerence that blue tone is one of the most satisfying colours to work with. I have just done some Spanish in that colour, also with red facings, and the look fantastic.

    1. Thanks! I look forward to seeing your work on the Spaniards. Surely they will pop off the painting desk very soon.

  13. I have this unit among my Nine Years War Bavarian contingent. Stuck between Prussia and Austria, and then getting swallowed in German Unification, it's easy to overlook the place of Bavaria in terms of military traditions and heritage. Your cornflower blue is spot on: nicely done!

    1. Thank you, Ed! I have a soft spot for Bavaria in my collections too. My 15mm Napoleonic Bavarians were some of the first figures in metal I painted. Still serving well.

I hope you will play Pfaffenhofen? ;-)

    1. Thank you! To fight Pfaffenhofen, French troops will be needed. Unfortunately, I have no French!

  15. Right. Although I think that the Bavarians could easily stand in for the Palatine troops (I found some contemporary toy soldiers in a book about Carl Theordor of Palatine). Simbach would be an option, if you would paint at least some cavalry too. Unfortunately Bavaria disbanded cavalry later and there would not be any use for Bavarian horse later (as in the SYW).

    Cheers,

    Damnitz

    1. Thanks! That is a good suggestion regarding Palatinate. I will investigate.
