Stradiots with Crossbow

A quick return to the 28mm Great Italian Wars project to field a trio of mounted Stradiots with crossbow.  With this Impetvs stand of light cavalry, the collection can now put on the field three such stands.  One stand is armed with lances, one armed with bows, and now this stand armed with crossbows.
As the other two Stradiot stands mustered before, these three figures are from Perry Miniatures.  Crisp detailing on the figures as expected from the Perry brothers with a number of (the all too familiar) tiny vent flash tidbits.  Seems like I never remove all of them until the figure is almost finished.  Oh well.  I do enjoy Perry figures!
Next up for the Italian Wars project will be two skirmish stands of Italian bowmen from TAG

  1. Ooh, I like them.

I'm trying to get members of my local club to put on a game of 15mm Basic Impetus, so I can see if I like it or not. I've seen the Scythian army list in the rules and think they sound a fun force to field.

    1. Roy, it is worth the effort to convince your friends to give BI a try. I really enjoy BI across several periods and most of my friends do too!

    1. These must have been 'little' cousins. DBA Italian War project sounds great. I will be following along.

  4. Those are great models and I really like the paint jobs. I also like your choice to put the light cavalry with so much space between them. It really brings them to life when they are based that way.

    1. Aaron! Glad you approve of the light cavalry basing! The number of figures on the base helps identify the troop class at a glance. Three horse mounted OB a base for light, four for medium, and five for heavy.

  8. Great work, they really look the part. And yes, I know exactly what you mean about Perry metals and the flash. I do enjoy painting them though - it always gives me real nostalgia to when I painted citadel sculpts by them as a kid.

    1. Thanks, Oli! the Perry brothers do make wonderfully detailed sculpts. Have not run across a sculpt I have not liked yet. I do find the Italian foot from the European Wars range to be much larger than the Foundry and Old Glory figures I have. I got a pack or two to add command figures to some Old Glory pike but felt they just did not look right.

    2. I have to agree with you certainly as far as cavalry, I wanted two units of eight, no problem with ten in a pack of old glory and six Perry but you can't use them together.

  10. They look great Jon. It is hard to have too many Stradiots - they were fairly ubiquitous during the Great Italian Wars!

    1. That's good! I have three stands painted and one more in The Lead Pile. They are wonderful figures. Maybe I need a few more?
