SYW Prussian Dragoons - Secret Santa

Two squadrons Prussian Dragoon Regiment #1
As a first time participant in Ian's Secret Santa exchange, I was delighted to receive a battalion's worth of Prussian musketeers and two squadron equivalents of Prussian dragoons from my Secret Santa.  What I received is shown below:
Secret Santa gift
Great stuff, eh?  Not only did my Secret Santa choose a suitable period but also made the effort to divine the proper proportions in which I field each unit.  Outstanding effort!  That thoughtfulness is much appreciated.

As a small token of my gratitude to my benefactor, the 12 gift dragoons parade off from the painting desk not yet a month out from Christmas.  These two squadrons will form up with two sibling squadrons to bring Dragoon Regiment #1 up to four squadrons.

Thank you, Secret Santa!

  5. Very fine regiment. The gift of a regiment of Prussian Dragoons immediately put me in mind of the famed "porcelain" Dragoons of Prussia, and so I had to search my limited 7YW sources. It seems that outfit, famously acquired by Frederick of Prussia from the Elector of Saxony in exchange for his father's porcelain collection, was the 6th regiment. Working from my sources, it seems that this black faced regiment with it's saddle blankets blue with yellow/gold trim is in fact the 1st Prussian Dragoons. Ah well, never look a gift Dragoon in the mouth!

    1. Soren! These 18mm dragoons are not part of the challenge. For that, I have some 28mm Minden Prussians singled out.

Santa was very generous and attentive too!

  8. Great looking lads Jonathan, and quickly too! Now that Maurice has gone a bit cold locally, I don't get to game SYW any more.

  9. They are quite lovely, you did a terrific job on them. I didn't know that Prussian dragoons wore plain black hats.
You were most fortunate in your Santa, most kind.

The illustrations I have show no colored tape on the hat.
