Austrian Cavalry Batteries

A small update from the painting desk today.  Begun under the shadow of the four-game series refighting Montebello, two Austrian cavalry batteries muster out from the painting desk.  Too late to participate at Montebello, these artillerymen will be ready for service when they are next called into action.  Still pondering bringing Marengo to the table but other games are in the queue before returning to the FRW.
The two guns and eight artillery crew are all from AB Miniatures.  As always, fine sculpts.  Sticking with the FRW theme, a Russian grenadier regiment may be next out of the blocks.
On the gaming front, Richard hosted a remote game featuring the 1870 Prussian Guard Corps' assault at St. Privat.  I will have something to say about how my French were roughly handled another day, probably once Richard posts a battle recap.  Until then, a teaser from our game...
I may have been thumped in this one but I look forward to giving the French a better outing next time.

  1. Nice new artillery units Jon and the story of St Privat will make for interesting reading.....the Prussian guards took a real pounding thanks to the chasse pot, according to my memory of the BBC "Soldiers" TV series!

    1. Thanks, Keith! The Guard took no such pounding in this fight!

  2. BTW...this post isn't actually showing up on your own blogs following section yet....when did you post it?

  3. I just clicked on your name in a comment on my post...as I think I have mentioned, I use your blog as an "index" so I visit often to see who has posted recently...a side benefit at the moment is, I then also see if you have posted something new!

    1. Happy to be a hub for your blog-reading enjoyment, Keith! Post latency is really a pain. This latency added to AI scrubbing IP and repackaging have me considering going private.

    2. As of this time - the most recent thing on your blog roll is Geordies Big Battles post from 22 hours ago.....

    3. Sorry I exaggerated - 18 hours ago

    4. Maybe many have taken the week off? I know Mark (1866) and David at Ragged Soldier have posts that are yet to appear on blogroll.

  4. Nice looking Austrian guns Jonathan. By coincidence I have just finished some Austrian artillery myself. Also by coincidence we have a FPW game coming up on Sunday. My latest post is also not showing on other blog rolls yet.

  6. Finely turned out there Jonathan. Isn't coming second as the French in the FPW the norm regardless 😉

  7. Great units there Jon but I wouldn't fancy riding on those seats (I think I'm right in that?) when whizzing into action! Your post wasn't showing around 7.00am UK time, but is now on my feed some 6 hours later.

  10. Nice guns. That is a good brown for the tunics. Adding guns always feels like army building is really progressing.

    1. P.S. I note that my feed has not pulled Richard’s account through yet, we seem to be returning to that bit of lag with Google.

    2. Richard's post has just appeared in my feed, apparently 'posted' 4 hours ago, but didn't show when I was online about an hour ago. Confused? You bet!

    3. Thanks, Norm! Well, the Austrians already have plenty of guns, but when I dug these horse guns out, I thought, why not? Yes, the feeds are slow for me with this post and for many others today (and yesterday). The blogger feeds are not getting picked up in a timely manner. I wonder if the AI load is grinding the process to a halt? I have sometimes noticed that WHEN I post can make a difference to lags.

    4. Steve, Richard's post is on my blogroll too and with a lag that this post experienced. Still a four-hour lag but not as bad as I saw with this post.

    5. I scrolled down my feed this morning, to find Mark Strachan's latest post had appeared between some posts I'd already read. Even worse just now one has appeared that was posted 4 days ago. So how many posts might we have missed... ?

    6. Mark’s post was a very long time coming. If you don’t scroll down through your blogroll, many blogs will be missed.

    7. I rarely had to scroll down through the blogroll, but I do it be default now, often more than a few days of posts just to be sure. So David In Suffolks latest post has just appeared, again in between previous once on said blogroll. Very frustrating but at least the Blogs are still going...

    8. Yes, we can still publish but if no one reads...

  12. Nice Hapsburg guns; slowing down on the painting front?☺
BTW, did you know those AB Figures start as Fimo?

    1. Thanks! Yes, painting has slowed down a bit, but I rallied at end of May to make an almost respectable total. I do not know Fimo.

    2. The US equivalent to Fimo is Sculpy; almost identical and IIRC Tony Barton uses both...

  13. This blog roll delay is a real pain. At least the lag times appear to be getting shorter. Austrian artillery always looks the part and these are great. I'd love to see you put on Marengo, when you get around to it in due course.

    1. A real pain, no doubt! Glad you approve of these artillery batteries. I will get back to FRW in due time. First, a little diversion into Feudal Japan.

    2. I suppose a 4 hour lag is okay as long as you have the confidence that at some point your post will go live - it is the wondering whether the post has simply disappeared into a place where no man might boldly dare to go that causes the anx!

But it looks like Google is still capable of doing what we need ….. for now!

    3. I lose a little confidence with each delayed post.

    4. Yes it is somewhat frustrating...I have a post now approximately 18 hours old, hasn't shown up anywhere yet, and only Dean of WAB has commented on it so far....

FRW? Not familiar with that term. Typo for Franco Prussian War?

  19. Very smart looking Austrians Jonathan.
It is nice not to have to walk into battle but those seats would give you second thoughts 😂

Bad luck in your battle against those pesky pugnacious Prussians.
