Activities on the hobby front continue winding their way through the month of May in the seasonal downturn mentioned in an earlier post (see A Few Spanish and a Seasonal Funk). Contributing to this stall and recent lack of posts was my week away in California. Nine days between posts is likely the biggest gap in more than a dozen years. Returning sees even more work to catch up with on the home front. Hopefully, I will be back to normal operations soon. The forced hiatus presents one interesting fallout. Having not posted in more than one week, I find it challenging to actually restart the blogging routine. I considered holding off for even a few more days needing a little recovery time to collect my thoughts. Once jostled out of a routine and regular habit, I am a little surprised how easy it would be to either slow down or stop altogether.
Mustering out earlier in the month are the French Chasseurs de Fischer. This body of 15 light infantrymen are added into the French Army for the 18mm SYW collection. Figures are Old Glory. Still a number of units awaiting their turn at the photo booth. With luck, I will return to the painting desk soon and the next post with not be nine days away.

DeleteI saw your latest work, Norm. In the most recent WotR game of Solden Hill, I went gridless. While the game played out fine, the players and I agreed that playing remotely on a hex was a better solution. Back to hexes after a very short diversion to an open table.

ReplyDeleteMy own normal level of blogging output represents a balance of all sorts of things, but I've come to accept that what I get out of posting is mostly personal entertainment, communication with friends and - less obviously - a useful habit of routine engagement. Sometimes, looking at my old posts, I wonder why on earth I published a particular item, and when coming back from a quiet spell I find I'm trying to be more discerning in my choice of material. It doesn't last, of course!
Anyway, that's enough about me - good to see you back in action.

I Had a year of one post, and one over 100 posts. Posting with excellent content is more impressive than a high post count. Your blog will make it better for you and you will make the blog better, post by post.

I also totally understand the impact of a break in routine..I was back home from our short holiday early Tuesday evening but could not motivate myself to post anything until Saturday...and I have still not visited the painting desk!
The mirliton is a fine piece of headgear. With an average of nine or ten posts per month, May is going to miss that mark by a bit. Probably will affect the annual totals too. Oh well, life proses constant adjustments to routines. With focus, perhaps I can return to that frequency? I have been back two days and have yet to make it downstairs to the game room.

DeleteInteresting that the chords on the mirliton are green as well, which makes them look quite different. Lovely work on them. It is interesting when one has an enforced break away from the hobby. I always feel lick I need a bit of a kickstart to get back into the swing.

DeleteYou brought back some memories there Jonathan...I remember painting that unit for someone back in the mid-1980s using the old Frei Korps figures. And I agree it is very easy to drop out of the routine.

DeleteI love the French light infantry. They have such a nice touch with their colourfull uniforms and their special jobs on the battlefield. Normaly I have to work on the figures to get the special look of the light troops. As always you painted them very well.
