Off the painting desk today are a baker's dozen Highlanders in 15mm from Campaign Game Miniatures (CGM). While CGM French in bicorne have seen service in the 1799 project, these highlanders are the first infantry painted for my older, 15mm Napoleonic project covering the Empire period. With so many other projects in work and a relatively stable Napoleonic Empire period project (i.e. I have more figures than I can use), more than three years have passed since I last added to this collection.
I like the sculpting of the CGM figures very much. Perhaps the quality is only slightly below that of AB. Anatomy is a little odd in a few poses but overall superb figures. I especially like the cavalry. Some of the cavalry I prefer over AB.
This Regiment musters out as the 93rd. The dip tended to dampen the color contrast on the kilts but the result is still pleasing. From a distance the tartan pattern would meld together, anyway. Nice figures!
Great work once again Jonathan:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve!
DeleteVery nice, plenty to look at and I think you are right about the kilts, they look perfect.
ReplyDeleteNorm, you are very kind to corroborate the kilt result.
DeleteNice work Jonathan I do hanker after a Napoleonic project but not at the moment
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt! You are quite busy with your 10mm SYW project at the moment, so you are excused.
DeleteLovely looking highlanders! Very nice!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks, Iain!
DeleteLooking good. I like the integrated officer.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the mounted officer in among the troops!
DeleteLovely work, and I thought it had been a little while since your last Napoleonic Empire period post.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, it has been a very long time since any Empire periods troops passed this way in 15mm.
DeleteBeautiful unit Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteGreat looking unit Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Ross
Thank you, Ross!
DeleteNicely looking highlanders, Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteGlad you approve!
DeleteVery nice indeed. I saw the tartan, so well done on that at this scale.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Very good to see that the tartan was not completed lost in its production!
DeleteGreat looking Highlanders. Amazing tartan work, Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteDean, you are always very kind!
DeleteLovely unit Jonathan! The detail on the figures is nice and crisp. Great paintwork too!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Mike!
DeleteNice work Jon! I know what you mean about fading the colors with the dip. I have taken to doing a highlight coat between the dip and dull-cote.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI am ok with the effect of the dip dulling and melding the colors a bit. It provides a more realistic effect, I think especially when considering the scale and distance from eye to figure. I have not highlighted following the dip yet but may give it a try sometime.
Lovely work Jonathan. I always get excited about painting highlanders, but quickly lose that enthusiasm once I start. It’s this kilts you know.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mark! I can honestly say that I have never been excited about painting highlanders!
DeleteNice work, the tartan has come out very well for a scale effect, but for goodness sake, paint the edges of the flag! It's a glaring thing on an otherwise lovely piece.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, Doug!
Delete"Usually" I do paint the flag edges but on this flag I thought the white border looked good so left it as is. Could this flag not have had a white trim or fringe?
Catching up on posts... doing tartan was bad enough in 28 mm, so my hat's off top you for even attempting it in 15mm! If I feel insanity coming on, I have enough Old Glory figures for at least one if not two more kilted regiments!
ReplyDeleteHappy to see you catching up on posts, Peter! Hate to see you slipping down the Top Commenters a List.
DeleteYeah, I really do not relish painting tartans in any scale.
