Hanover Von Sporcken

After being called away for familial duties for much of the week, I return not too much worse for the wear.  Well, I am a bit fatigued and have not seen action on the bike for a week.  I will change that later today once the temperatures rise and the bike and I hit the road for a meaningful workout.  With these trips south becoming more regular, the 800+ mile round trip drive is becoming a little less daunting.  Armed with a number of multi-episode lectures to listen to, the long hours spent confined in the car passed more easily.
On the hobby front, there is much to catch up on.  The same holds for the home front as well.  Besides two battle reports to tap out, several topical discussions have cropped up needing further explanation.
To help come back up to speed, off the table today is one, 23-figure Hanoverian infantry regiment for the 18mm SYW project.  The regiment musters out as Von Sporcken.  Figures are Old Glory infantry led by a Eureka mounted colonel.  At the beginning of the month, I expected October would see a respectable number of figures mustering out.  With a week away from the painting desk, those expectations have been dashed to bits.  Hopefully, I will get back into the swing of things soon.

    1. Thanks, George! Restarting is challenging even with only little time away from the brushes.

    1. Thanks, Donnie! Hanoverians are your favorite SYW army? They were quite a way down on the list of the armies I wanted to field. Hanoverians do look good, though!

    1. Thank you, Neil! Once winter takes a turn for the worse, Saturday morning attendance at VWC is more likely. Always much to do here on Saturday mornings.

    1. Glad you like 'em, Steve! I really would like to hammer out these two BatReps before I forget all that transpired or get the details of the two battles confused.

  7. Lovely job Jon - they look terrific. I am intrigued by the idea of the 18mm OG figures - how far off scale would they be for (smallish) 1/76 Higginses?

    1. Thanks, Tony! The Old Glory figures are large 15s so I doubt they would work for your 20mm collection.

  8. They look terrific Jonathan. The older I get the more those longer trips tire me out.

    1. Lawrence, you are most kind! These long road trips wreck my back for a few days after.

  9. Hi Jon, hope your folks are all okay - that’s a hell of a long drive however “used to it” you get. As usual the unit you’ve produced is gorgeous, though I’m not sure how you found the time!

  11. Sorry to hear about your parents. An 800 mile round trip is no fun on top of that.
I think Von Sporcken was one of the units I did. At most of the big SYW battles in western Germany. Nice work as usual!

    1. Thanks, Alan. Once Saturday morning activities slow, a return to the weekly VWC sessions is likely.

  14. Hope your parents are well Jon! I am still AWOL from the painting or gaming table...currently in Christchurch, and have A LOT of pictures if the last fortnight or so to share in a week or so! The figures are very obviously OG...the marching pose is exactly the same as the 25mm version!

  15. Gosh, your intro said it all. Been through the tunnel without the long trips, keep yourself rested and topped off as much as possible. The new troops look great, it's a excellent looking addition to your collection. Rest up and get back to the fun stuff as you are able

  16. 800 mile round trips in a car sound bruising, your Hanoverians look excellent, they wouldn't be my favourite SYW army to be honest but good nonetheless!

  19. We've often spoke about how far you drive to get to a game, but an 800 mile round trip must be a killer! At kwadt you had skne good listening there and back. I hope your parents are well and I wish them all the very best.

  20. Hanoverian infantry always is looking very nice. I'm excited to read when you will use them for a game. Unfortunately I have no time to paint myself - but so many figures waiting in my livingroom (Austrian infantry, 30-years war generic horse and more).

    1. Thank you! Hopefully, life allows you to return to the painting desk. Not sure when we will see Hanoverians out on table but there are enough to field a sizable contingent for battle.

The context is vague, which usually means less than good. So best wishes if needed.
    Good looking unit as usual.
