The brief Sumerian distraction will be followed up by more FPW Prussians and the first of SYW/WAS British cavalry. Yes, looks like I finally begin work on a British army for this period.
On the gaming front, today sees a return to the very long-running AWI campaign with Matt as he rolls out the Battle of Bennington. Matt and I have experienced a very long hiatus in this campaign so it will be a welcome return to old. Monday sees a rematch of Shiloh in a remote game with Postie's Rejects before I clear the table of ACW and plan for the next series of games. Since the 15mm Feudal Japan armies have not seen action in a very long time, that period is where I am headed next.
Finally, a panoramic photo of the Spokane River Gorge, the Monroe Street Bridge, and the Lower Falls taken on a loop walk on a mostly sunny and warm Saturday afternoon.
Nice figures and a great photo of the river!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Scott! Yesterday was a good day for a walk.
DeleteSumerians are looking lovely, nice brushwork to complement nice sculpts. It will be good to see another AWI report.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Norm! Well, the AWI battle is finished but not yet written.
DeleteFine Sumerians there Jon, with a nice colour palette which really makes the armoured cloth over the left shoulder stand out:). Some good games lined up for sure, ditton on the painting front. Lovely view of the falls and our daughter is just back from NY where it was 25C and like Summer!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steve! Some good games on the docket with the AWI game with Matt just finished. No spoiler just yet.
DeleteNicely turned out chaps there Jonathan, Sumeria is not over it appears.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Sumer may be over here...
DeleteGreat to see more Sumerians ready for the wargames table
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them, Neil!
DeleteGreat unit again!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLovely looking toys Jonathan….
ReplyDeleteAnd a very nice scenic picture…
All the best. Aly
Good to see that you approve of both!
DeleteGreat choice of colours on the Sumerians. I always enjoy your and Matt's AWI games and must have a look at Rebels and Patriots at some point.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lawrence! I am sure Matt will have his account of battle up soonish. It was a hard-fought slog.
DeleteThey look great Jon. Agree with Lawrence on the colours.
ReplyDeleteNice shot of Spokane too!
Chris/Nundanket
Thanks, Chris! This view from downtown is one of my favorite vantage points.
DeleteNice to see a brief return to 28mm Biblicals, Jon, they look lovely 👌
ReplyDeleteThe river view looks fantastic as well.
Good! I will return to Biblicals and Sumerians again shortly. For now, back to horse & musket.
DeleteThe new chaps and the view look lovely. Do you just pull a unit out of a box because you fancy painting them or is there an organised schedule and everyone has to wait their turn?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sir! While there is some method to my madness there is an unwritten goal of what I want to work on with GREAT variability. I tend to paint what strikes my fancy with a core, fixed portion.
DeleteYou seem to be getting a nice balance or painting and gaming. The Sumerians look splendid with a fair bit of detail to carefully paint on their clothes.
ReplyDeleteYes, cutting back on the number of hosted games is helping realign the balance although this week looks to see three games. Glad you like the Sumerians. There are more in the painting queue.
DeleteJonathan,
ReplyDeleteI thought Sumer-time was officially finished ☺
Another full week of wargaming lined up I see.
Neil
Clocks in the US do not fall back until next Sunday. Still Sumer-time here!
DeleteThe Sumerians are very nice, you have a good color scheme going. Hopefully you keep up the painting effort. I had a short run at Rebels and Patriots last year with good results.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe! October painting tally is not great…
DeleteWhat are your impressions of R&P?
Great looking figures Jonathan. I was going to ask what the cloth over the bowmen's left shoulder was but Steve J answered that.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot of the river and gorge. Great framing.
Much appreciated, Ben! The garment draped over the shoulder is a leather cloak studded with bronze disks.
DeleteGreat work on the Sumerians, nice colour on the cloaks, Newline figures looks very nice. Cracking panoramic view of the gorge.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donnie! Newline figures have a particular style that I enjoy painting. Good value too!
DeleteThe Sumerians are great Jonathan. Good to see your fall weather is still warm.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Saturday may have been the last of the warm days. Temperatures are dropping…
DeleteSumerians look excellent. Spokane looks pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteAlan Tradgardland
Happy to see that you approve of the Sumerians and my photography, Allan!
DeleteNice unit Jon, are you saying you don’t have a British army for the SYW ! Have we found a gap in the Palouse collection I’ll try and blog Bennington up later 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks! Surprisingly, there may be more gaps than imagined.
DeleteI have a question: is there a reason for so much uniformity of the clothes? I would mix some other colours into the costumes. Great units nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteNo reason really. I figure “units” may have had access to local supplies of the same or similar material using similar dyes. I reckon whitish clothing may be most common. Also, having the cloaks the same color helps identify a unit on the table. While I mix it up more in some units, perhaps I ought to include more variety?
DeleteNope, I think your reasoning is valid Jon.
DeleteGood man!
DeleteMaybe it's good to have a basic colour for a substantial proportion of the unit ( I like your logic about local supplies) but also a bit of variation? I remember doing ECW figures ages ago when some folk would do a 'bluecoat' regiment in a very uniform style, but I always thought better to have a few coats of different shades of blue, or even different colours in there, and various different colours for breeches, hats etc in fairly random combinations. So the overall theme is recognisable, but not completely uniform.. (but you know this already!) Anyway, they look good!
DeleteThanks, David!
DeleteI use the same colour for cloaks etc to help identify a unit as it makes it easier for me during a game.
ReplyDeleteGreat minds...
Delete"Sumer is coming" (the anti-Game Of Thrones trope).
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteAt least with matt you'll be playing and not just hosting so that will be a good variety as well.
ReplyDeletegood looking skirmishers. I was just thinking that your armies of ancient Sameria could use a little boost. 😁
Yes, playing without umpiring is a much less stressful experience allowing more time to concentrate on the task at hand.
DeleteFine looking additions to the Biblical hordes!
ReplyDeleteThanks, David!
DeleteGreat looking unit, Jon. Great game last night too!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! Yesterday’s fight was a good one, really going down to the wire. Raith’s spoiling attack along the Corinth Road was well-timed and well-executed. Caught me by surprise and the Rebs too, I suspect.
