A Foursome of Austrian Guns
Work returns to the 1799 project. This update sees four Austrian guns and crew rolling off the painting desk. The guns and crew are from AB Miniatures with the artillerymen hailing from the FRW range. Excellent figures and just the ticket for a growing FRW Austrian army. Four more Austrian guns and crew await in the painting queue.
Now, I have a bunch of Austrian batteries for the 1809 project that could be pressed into service for the 1799 campaign. 1809 uniforms show not much difference to this earlier dress. Even so, I wanted to field AB figures and guns for the 1799 project. Most of the guns and crew for the 1809 project are Old Glory painted many, many years ago. Some of these Old Glory guns may still need to be pressed into service. We shall see.

Marvellous. The painting is super, of course, but as ever I am very taken by the AB castings. Does anyone else make figures of a compatible size?

Much appreciated, Tony! Many others work with AB but due to sculpting style perhaps not in the same unit. A few that I have used in the same project (this one) with AB are Campaign Games Miniatures, Blue Moon, and Eureka. I set out to have this project AB only but have expanded my criteria slightly. Still most figures are from the wonderful AB.

Yes, the figures keep rolling off the painting desk. One unit per week is a good average but I exceed that goal often. I had six units make it across the painting desk in May.

Hi Richard, one way to keep painting motivation high is to change it up often. Works for me!
AB figures are great sculpts, indeed! They are a little more fiddly to paint than some other manufacturers, though.

I was thinking that the 1790ish Austrian gunners could easily pass for later ones (especially in 15mm). However, by having different figure lines for each, they'll certainly be differentiated (makes sense!). Nicely done.

Some might think it is overkill and a bit redundant to build new batteries but...

They are great Jonathan. There is something about Austrian artillery that always looks good, maybe it is the yellow ochre guns or the brown coats and red trim.
I agree that there is something inviting about the Austrian artillery arm.
Wonderful battery, Jon. I too am fond of the Austrian artillery arm. That reminds me that I do have quite a few Austrian crew to paint myself at some point! For now, Spanish will continue to dominate painting production until July
