Work returns to the 1799 project. This update sees four Austrian guns and crew rolling off the painting desk. The guns and crew are from AB Miniatures with the artillerymen hailing from the FRW range. Excellent figures and just the ticket for a growing FRW Austrian army. Four more Austrian guns and crew await in the painting queue.
Now, I have a bunch of Austrian batteries for the 1809 project that could be pressed into service for the 1799 campaign. 1809 uniforms show not much difference to this earlier dress. Even so, I wanted to field AB figures and guns for the 1799 project. Most of the guns and crew for the 1809 project are Old Glory painted many, many years ago. Some of these Old Glory guns may still need to be pressed into service. We shall see.

Very nice, I always feel a project is definitely moving forward once the guns take their place in the ranks.
Excellent artillery Jonathan!
Very nice set of artillery Jonathan!

Marvellous. The painting is super, of course, but as ever I am very taken by the AB castings. Does anyone else make figures of a compatible size?
Nice and useful collection of guns and gunners, well done!
Another well painted unit rolls of the painting desk. You seem to paint an average of one unit per week to a high standard.
Lovely work Jonathon!
Excellent job they all came out really well.
AB figures are very nice and beautifully painted. Jonathan I really like the way you keep the variety up.
Richard
More great looking figures for this project, they look to be great sculpts too!
Best Iain
Thank you, Norm! As for guns joining the ranks as a sign of project progression, I agree. I prefer painting infantry first.
Thank you, Christopher!
Thanks!
Much appreciated, Tony! Many others work with AB but due to sculpting style perhaps not in the same unit. A few that I have used in the same project (this one) with AB are Campaign Games Miniatures, Blue Moon, and Eureka. I set out to have this project AB only but have expanded my criteria slightly. Still most figures are from the wonderful AB.
Thanks much, Phil!
Yes, the figures keep rolling off the painting desk. One unit per week is a good average but I exceed that goal often. I had six units make it across the painting desk in May.
Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Hi Richard, one way to keep painting motivation high is to change it up often. Works for me!
AB figures are great sculpts, indeed! They are a little more fiddly to paint than some other manufacturers, though.
Very nice work on these batteries, Jonathan. I'm thinking of getting back into Black Powder a bit.
What a great battery!
Those are some terrific guns, Jon. Just how big is this project getting now?
I was thinking that the 1790ish Austrian gunners could easily pass for later ones (especially in 15mm). However, by having different figure lines for each, they'll certainly be differentiated (makes sense!). Nicely done.
Looks great Jonathan. I have a bunch of AB figures and they really are great sculpts.
Good looking stuff, and no need for justification. More artillery is always the correct move for any collection.
Thanks, Dean. We would all welcome seeing your handiwork in Horse and Musket.
Thanks!
Much appreciated, Scott! By my count, I show nearly 100 BMUs for the project. That total is surprising.
Some might think it is overkill and a bit redundant to build new batteries but...
Thank you, Jon! The AB figures certainly are fine sculpts although I find them more work to paint than some other manufacturers.
I like the way you think, Jake!
Very nice artillery! Looks splendid. 😀
I like the colors.
Thanks, Stew!
They are great Jonathan. There is something about Austrian artillery that always looks good, maybe it is the yellow ochre guns or the brown coats and red trim.
I agree that there is something inviting about the Austrian artillery arm.
Wonderful battery, Jon. I too am fond of the Austrian artillery arm. That reminds me that I do have quite a few Austrian crew to paint myself at some point! For now, Spanish will continue to dominate painting production until July
Thank you, Peter!
Your Spanish have been rolling off your painting desk at a very brisk pace! Great to see the variety of Spanish you have.
