On Tour

This week I am on tour. Where’s Jon?

Report upon my return.

  1. An ACW battlefield I'd guess, but with the colour of the image (on my laptop anyway) it could be Magenta in Italy (highly unlikely but you never know). It does remind me that I would like to do some battlefield tours at some point, as and when caring duties allow...

    1. Both good guesses, Steve!
Hope you find time to make a battlefield walk or two. For me, walking the ground puts all into context.

  2. I look forward to seeing the report. Like Steve I assume it is an ACW battlefield judging by the photo

  3. Never asked. Are you going around the sights by bike?

  4. Second piece from bottom, partially obscured by smoke? Next to Waldo? Picture reminds me of Shiloh depiction, from old Time-Life series.

    1. For sure! I am wearing out a good pair of boots and legs…

  6. All that pink! Tardis to Mars? Or something to do with the Seven Days battles, I am only saying that because I want it to be.

    1. Norm, you make me laugh! Tardis to Mars? Perhaps the background color is a “Red” Herring?

Seven Days Battles is a good guess too.

  7. Is that "The Angle" at Gettysburg"?

    1. Just counted back - 45 years since I visited Gettysburg. I'd love to again one day.

    2. Gettysburg is definitely worth a repeat visit.

  8. I think that's from the Gettysburg Cyclorama

  9. When I just glanced at the thumbnail it looked like a nebula gas cloud but on closer inspection I'll go with an ACW battlefield as well, rather than deep space

    1. The photo does, indeed, resemble a nebulous gas cloud. ACW is a wise choice.

  10. Just the one battlefield Jon? I thought you might be flying to the east coast, and then doing a road trip, from the FIW and AWI battlefields in the NE down to the ACW ones further south....I was expecting you home in July! πŸ˜€

    1. Looks like we are likely to visit three or four battlefields on this trip although none from the FIW.

  11. My guess is Gettysburg. Make sure you dodge the cannon balls Jonathan.

    1. Good guess, Richard! Dodging traffic is more an issue than cannon balls.

    1. Fun, for sure. Looks like a soggy battlefield walk at Antietam today.

  14. I have the guest room all ready for you. The next night we’ll do the blood brothers ceremony. πŸ˜€

(This is how rumors get started).

Have a nice trip. I have the feeling that I’m going to be VERY envious.

    1. But I made no reservation…

You can expect to see ACW action on my gaming table once I return. Perhaps you can be convinced to try a remote game?

    2. I don’t need convincing. πŸ˜€
      Just the invitation.

    3. Aha! That is a very easy solution! I will be in touch once I have an ACW battle planned. I take requests…

  15. Your trip if it includes Antietam and Gettysburg certainly covers some Hallowed Ground. Now where else will you report on? Pity you're to be so close and we not be able to beguile you into a game. Surely a visit to Mr Colt's factory site could be arranged, eh?

    1. Several Hallowed Ground sites this trip, for sure. Stay tuned to discover where. Connecticut is a bit too far north for this trip. A game would certainly be fun some day.

    2. Connecticut/New England/MidAtlantic area is definitely more suitable for French and Indian War/Revolutionary War sites than ACW, although there are Civil War Monuments in almost every New England town!

    3. As you know, I have interests in both FIW and AWI. Say, my FIW armies have not seen the table in years. Perhaps time to dust them off?

  16. Mystic (CT), Seaport is not to be missed if you have an interest in the history of Sailing ships, and then there's the WW1 Aerodrome in Old Rhinebeck, NY, which is not too far from me - a little over an hour's drive.

    1. One day, may drop by for a visit! I have a niece with a September wedding in Maine.

    2. I'd second Mystic for interest. And a capture of quaint with Seaport, Aquarium and downtown so close together. September would be a lovely time.

    3. Depending upon where in Maine, it can be closer or further than Virginia from us!

  17. Enjoy Gettysburg Jon πŸ‘ I need to return sometime ?

    1. The photo is from Gettysburg but Antietam is another of the sites visited.

  19. Ooo sounds like a trip I've always wanted to undertake. Perhaps once I retire and my children are grown and I
actually have time.... in say another 20 years or so.

Looking forward to some ACW action on this very blog!

    1. You must make the Pilgrimage when your situation allows. You will not be disappointed.

Expect some ACW battles in the future.
