Piedmont Monferrato Regiment

With weather improving and games-a-plenty, work at the painting desk slows.  Still, I manage to keep the brush engaged but not fully.

Off the painting desk today is the first of a number of SYW/WAS units being called to the colors.  Well, the colors have yet to arrive but you get the picture.  Today's offering contains 23 figures of the Piedmontese Monferrato Infantry Regiment.  Foot figures are Old Glory led by a Eureka Mounted colonel.

With warming temperatures, Spring Run-off kicks into a higher gear this week.  A torrent of water is passing through the Spokane Gorge and over the falls.  Stopping on the Blue Steel Bridge before I begin the ascent home is a nice break in the daily cycling routine.

  1. Good to see you making new toys! Man that river looks fast. Ever done any kayaking on it?

    1. Right now, the river is very fast and extremely cold. Kayaking is not possible in this stretch of the river.

  2. A nice addition to your "Tricorn" collection Jon. I still find it amazing that such an "untamed" torrent should flow through the middle of your home town!

    1. Glad you like the latest, Neil! Plenty more where they came from. What color were the gun carriages in the WSS?

  6. A majestic batch of Piedmont troops there. A majestic if somewhat scary flow of water you have there too.

    1. Thank you! Indeed, the water is quite chilly. A person would not last long in these waters.

  8. Beautiful work on the Piedmontese Jonathan. I always feel a sense of impatience when I have a completed unit waiting for their colours to arrive. Do many fall into the river, or is it fenced where it goes through town?

    1. Thanks, Lawrence! If I waited for flags to trigger a parade, some armies would see few entries.

The Gorge is mostly fenced but if one was determined to fall in, the effort needed would not be great.

  10. Fantastic stuff: I can only imagine how impressive it must be to witness the power of that water first hand.

  12. Good to see the painting continuing apace Jon:). Lovely to see the weather allowing you to get out on the bike too. Our rivers never get to that state (well maybe a few streams do after heavy rain), so wonderful to see Nature in all her fury.

    1. Painting continues but not sure recent efforts can be classified as “apace”. Painting production is smacking up against one of the seasonal doldrums. Nature can be a powerful force.

  13. Lovely painting Jonathan. I was thinking they must be 28mm but looking at the bases they must be 10 mm 😊
Great to have such a water way close to you. I always love the sound of moving water.

    1. Thanks, Ben! The figures are actually 15/18mm. I enjoy the sound of moving water too. The sound of this water volume passing over the falls is deafening.

  14. I love your new regiment of Piedmont foot. I myself plan a new unit of Piedmont militia. I wish you a lot of joy building up one of the best armies of the period.

  16. man, your painting desk is a like a machine gun constantly firing out painted units. 😀

    and the water looks murderous.

    1. I am not that fast but when the inspiration strikes, I can crank out about 100 figures per month.

If you fall into the river this time of year, you are a goner, for sure.

    2. You know where there are no murder rivers? In my house. INSIDE. 😀😝😝

  17. A very fine looking regiment. At first I read the unit title as "Nosferatu" - shades of The Silver Bayonet! :-)
The Gorge is an impressive sight indeed!

Those rushing waters are both very pretty but also rather frightening I think.
