10th NY National Zouaves

The third regiment in my 28mm Federal brigade marches off from the painting desk.  That regiment is the 10th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment or the National Guard Zouaves.
Figures are the last of the Sash & Saber Zouaves I picked up years ago.  While the sculpting is generally quite good on Sash & Saber figures, I found many of these Zouaves to have a number of misshapen faces.  No matter, from eye to table distance these ugly mugs will not be noticed.
With their colorful and flamboyant uniform, these recruits will brighten up the typically dreary ACW battlefield.  Having two Zouave regiments in my brigade, they may not find glory on the battlefield but will look smart trying!
With three infantry regiments and four guns in the brigade, I think it time to pull all of the troops out for a parade review.  That parade review will be coming up soon.

    1. S&S are fine looking figures. Both 25mm ACW and Napoleonics are first rate despite my slight complaint about the faces on some of these figures.

  3. Very nice. Yet to paint any Zouaves myself for my own Union force, but the 10th looks very do-able.

    1. Thanks, Roy! The 10th NY would give any ACW project a splash of needed color.

    1. Much appreciated, Iain! With only three foot regiments and four guns, it will be a very quick parade. Don't blink or you may miss it!

  6. Great looking regiment Jonathan! Redoubt are my favorite ACW miniatures, but after that comes Sash and Sabre and the reason is they both pack a lot of character and also implied movement that gives them a sense of action.

    1. Thank you, Christopher! While I have painting hundreds of Redoubt ECW figures, no Redoubt have crossed my painting desk. Your photos and stock illustrations show that Redoubt ACW are really nice. S&S do have good movement and character sculpted in.

  7. I agree with you that zouaves give a nice splash of color to a Civil War battle. These look very nice. I look forward to the brigade shot.

  10. marvellous pantaloons - they will brighten any ACW battlefield. I have a Zouave regiments (28mm plastic) in my Perry ACW Battle in a Box set, as part of the Union order of battle and so will be doing this uniform. I have them in 12mm, but over inked the trousers and they look rather coarse, I much prefer the gentler tones that you have done and will hopefully emulate that. Glad you showed these.

  11. As always well executed. I suspect that 28mm will soon overtake all other scales for you?

    1. Thanks! 28mm still has much ground to cover before it catches up with the pile of painted 15s. I am trying though...
