The First of the Hanoverians

Finally, work begins on fielding a new army for the WAS/SYW projects.  Actually, work has been simmering away slowly with many diversions but the first pair of infantry regiments musters out.

Adding Hanoverians to the project opens up many new doors including further expansion into the War of Austrian Succession and the War of Polish Succession.  Perhaps even the Jacobite Rebellion?  So many possibilities.

Today, two infantry regiments march off from the painting desk.  They are Fabrice and Drachtleben.  Foot figures are Blue Moon led by a Eureka mounted colonel.

Away they go, marching off into the storage box!

More Hanoverians to come.

    1. Much appreciated! Summertime is a lull in painting for me but I still turn over some units.

  4. They look terrific Jonathan. That really is one of the more eye-catching uniforms.

  5. Very nice. I also was tempted by Jacobites but it remains an idea although the Italian Wars might morph into the Peasants War and Flodden.

    1. Thanks! We are all tempted by project scope creep. Some are better at resisting than I!

  6. And they shall say, “Handsome as a Hanoverian!”
They certainly do open a veritable Pandora’s box of opportunities!

  7. Splendid - they look great. I am considering adding a Hanoverian detachment to my WSS forces, so this is on-topic for me as well.

  8. Great job, Jonathan! The Hanoverians are very good. I look forward to the games on the mentioned wars, especially in the War of the Polish Succession, the Russians first met the French on the battlefield.

    1. Thank you! Wars of Polish Succession are not seen much on the Wargaming table. I enjoy day, perhaps, I can change that?

  9. Another new army?! Great stuff! You know it makes sense. How else are you going to do Hastenbeck?
It looks like quite a muted red for the coats.

    1. Yep. Are you shaking your head in disbelief? There are many battles that open up to refighting once Hanoverians step into the ring.

  10. Very nice work Jon....I like Valentines suggestion about the War of Polish Succession....not a very regularly gamed conflict, I would postulate!

    1. Thanks, Keith! I have only seen War of Polish Succession gamed infrequently. Most of this have been by our friend Andre using Honours of War.

    1. I did not until I began digging into unit histories. They found themselves in many conflicts.

  13. Lovely Johnathan. I do like the Hanoverian army and nearly as good as the British of the same period.

    1. Thanks, Robbie! I figured I could swap them for British when needed as a bonus.

  14. Two lovely units and a nice touch to have the grenadiers attached. For my SYW armies I plan to have mine converged, which means a few different uniforms if I want to be authentic in their look. I recommend the '45 for something a bit different and we've had some fun games over the years based upon this rebellion.

    1. Thanks, Steve! I wrestled wit the question of inherent or detached grenadiers. My reading suggests they were integral to the regiment in the earlier conflicts. Hope that is correct since that is my way forward.

  17. I think the Jacobite Rebellion from this time (Culloden was the end of it right?) would be the theme to grab my attention and start collecting.

Very nice looking unit. Picking out all the piping and such really makes them pop.

    1. Glad you like them! All of your fine scenario work for these earlier periods inspires me to field these less mainstream armies.

    2. I painted my own Hanoverian artillery (you surely know the artillery) using some information by the blogger who is so much focussed on the artillery of the period. He wrote to me that it is hard to find information about the Hanoverian artillery. I could send it to you, but it's in German.
