Well, I planned to share two bases of skirmishers for the 28mm Peninsular War project but became sidetracked. What caught my eye was an unpainted, 54mm gunslinger in pewter from Tin Soldier. I painted a 54mm Landsknecht (see Landsknecht) years ago and never proceeded to paint any more of the figures. This week, I remedied the situation and put the gunslinger model into the painting queue.This fellow is a gunslinger in sombrero packing two six guns. Serious looking hombre, I think, and posed for action. Sculpting is very fine with superb detailing. Gunfighting in 54mm sounds fun, doesn't it? I would need to find a few additional figures to pull that off but I have a start.

Nice choice of colours, and a great job on this one. It would be an interesting project, although having to purchase the 54mm terrain when you already have it in 28mm would be enough to make me think twice.

DeleteBeautiful work on this figure Jonathan. I had a huge collection of Tamiya figures when I was a teenager that I always had a half formed plan to use for skirmish gaming...it never came to fruition of course and they are all long gone. I have to agree with Iain's sentiment too...I actually have the Stadden (I think) "Scotland Forever " in 90mm...so large that the pattern of the kilt is sculpted onto the figure...its been in my possession for about the same period as Iain's Assyrian...I really should try to sell it and use the proceeds to buy some smaller figures that I might actually paint!

DeleteThat turned out well! I'm deeply tempted by 54mm scale - turns out, I enjoy painting larger figures. The only thing that stops me is the cold fact that I lack the space to store or play with them . . . .
ReplyDeleteThe gunfighter turned out well to my eye too. You could paint a few 54s for display only without the need to collect enough for gaming. I enjoyed painting this larger figure too.
