Celt Slingers from BTD

A variety of projects continues marching its way across the painting desk.  Today's offering is no exception.
Returning to the 28mm Ancients project are two skirmisher stands of Celtic or Gallic slingers.  Figures are based for Impetvs and manufactured by Black Tree Design.
Having recently fielded a warband stand of Celts (see Warband), I figured a little light infantry support was needed for the slowly growing Celtic/Gallic contingent.
While the 28mm Ancients project only saw one unit mobilized in 2016 (see War Elephant), already three units have mustered out in 2017.  A second war elephant is working its way into the painting queue with the Libyan runners likely being the first out of the blocks.
In other news, the ACW Pickett's Charge game scheduled for Saturday was postponed due to a number of factors not least of which was the appearance of the hometown University's men's basketball team in the mid-afternoon NCAA National Championship semi-final game.  Woot!
I am delighted to report that the Gonzaga Bulldogs pulled out a nail-biting victory against the South Carolina Gamecocks to move on to the National Championship game on Monday night.  Quite a feat for a small Jesuit school in Eastern Washington State.

Go Zags!

    1. Phil! Your countryman, Killian Tillie, plays for Gonzaga. He came into the game with under a minute remaining for the purpose of grabbing a rebound. He was fouled with seconds left on the clock. Tillie coolly sank two free throws to put the game out of South Carolina's reach. That first year man must have ice water in his veins! Viva la France!

  2. Well done, Zags. In a small coincidence, my Northwestern Wildcats, following their first-ever tournament win, "encountered" Gonzaga in the second round: end of Cinderella story for N.U. But still a feel good for the program. Now pullung for Gonzaga.

    1. Ed, that IS a small coincidence! Your Wildcats were the Cinderella team at the tournament this year and a great first appearance. It was a hard fought game with officials (in my opinion) playing a larger role than warranted. I think there will be many rooting for Gonzaga against UNC.

  5. And now for something completely different! Nice celts, you keep us on your toes with your varied scales and periods, I tend to get stuck in one period for a while, still each to their own and I always enjoy whatever you turn out!
    Best Iain

    1. Keeping a variety of figures moving across the painting desk keeps figures moving across the painting desk!

      Always appreciate your comments, Iain!

  6. The shields really turned out well.

Too bad about yesterday, but still, back when I went to GU the only bragging rights we had was the law school.

    1. Thanks! Glad you approve of the shieldwork. Freehand shield design is not a forte of mine either.

As for GU, that was a tough, very tough game to watch. The officials really put their stamp on the game. Did not help that the Bigs got into early foul trouble and could not hit the basket.
