I did manage to finish a 15-figure band of Pathans to add into the 19th Century Great Game project. Figures are Wargames Foundry. These three stands are based as irregulars more suitable for harassment than stand up fights.
This week looks relatively quiet on the gaming front until Friday when I host a refight of the Bassignana battle with four players. With quiet returning to the house and rain coming down in a steady pour today, perhaps I can spend some quality time at the painting desk? Lots in work with a decidedly WAS/SYW flavor but with a few surprise project additions as well.
There is still a Bassignana report from last week to write too. Until that time, below is another teaser from the battle showing d'Aix' Piedmontese holding the high ground as the French contemplate an assault.
Nice looking unit
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYour Pathans have turned out really well, a very nice unit. Great figures from Wargames Foundry, good sense of movement in them especially the swordsmen, super work on them.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them, Donnie! Even though old, these Foundry figures are still first rate and paint easily.
DeleteI look forward to seeing these in action
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteAha! "early morning hours" painting - so that's how he does it - he doesn't sleep! ☺
ReplyDeleteNice work on the Pathans!
Neil
Nancy and I often joke that I get in a full day's work before she gets up in the morning.
DeleteLovely looking unit Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Richard!
DeleteGreat looking tribal figs, Jonathan. It's great to see the Foundry figs - they really are fine sculpts.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dean. The Foundry figures for these ranges are superb.
DeleteLovely work on the Pathans Jonathan. It's always great have the grandchildren over, but entertaining them for more than three or four hours can be a challenge.
ReplyDeleteYour right on the entertaining calculus. We had them not for three hours but for three days. Glad you approve of the Pathans.
DeleteAnother beautiful unit Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteHigh losses on the side of Piedmont as I guess. After my last game I have to play 2 more battles for all major encounters of the WPS and hope to return to the WAS in October or November.
ReplyDeleteAndrΓ©, both sides saw big losses. The deciding event was when the King went down in melee. I hope to turn to playing some of your WPS battles.
DeleteA frightful looking set of ruffians, what! Where’s Flashman gone?
ReplyDeleteWill we see their opponents soon?
Chris/Nundanket
No Flashman. Their opponents will likely be Russian and a unit of Russians appeared recently.
DeleteAh! I forgot the Moscow Regiment.
DeleteFlashman's nemesis Ignatieff perhaps?
That's right!
DeleteVery finely turned out tribesmen.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Phil!
DeleteStill chipping away at the painting while there is chaos in the household, a true wargamer.
ReplyDeleteAt least I am not moving house and country! I see that you are still hotly engaged on the wargaming front despite the chaos swirling around you.
DeleteExcellent work on those Pathans, that due to their dress, can be used from the Balkans right across to Afghanistan and the Chinese border. Well, that's how I plan to use mine! Weather still up and down here but the games room is now pretty much done, bar moving all the books and figures into their new home:).
ReplyDeleteThanks! Good to see that your game room is in the home stretch of completion.
DeleteSome damn fine painting Jon! Looking forward to Bassignana, next Monday!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! It will be great to see you at the table again.
DeleteGreat looking pathans, you still painted more than I have. Looking forward to the AAR.
ReplyDeleteThank you! These reports don’t write themselves.
DeleteNice work Jon a good looking unit. I would try to keep that little one out of your gaming room we wouldn’t want those boxes to tumble onto the floor !
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt and thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, the path to the guest suite in the basement passes through the game room.
DeleteLOL, I always have a 3 year old tearing through my stuff. sucks don't it! ππ
ReplyDeletepainting early in the morning or late at night is the only way I paint, so I feel for you. π
She was almost completely uninterested in my toys since we have boxes and closets full of little kid toys.
DeleteLovely new toys Jonathan…
ReplyDeleteAnd quite a historical time jump….
All the best. Aly
Thanks, Aly! Butterfly in full flight mode...
DeleteOne of these days, Jon, I would like to get into one of your remote games. They do look a treat when you post them up.
ReplyDeleteEric
Eric, when your schedule allows, drop me an email and we can get a game on the docket.
DeleteThe Pathans look lovely Jon - I really do like your "barren" type basing (seen here and also on the previous biblical unit!)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith!
DeleteCool Pathans. A refreshing switch from the "usual suspects" of the Sudan and Zulu-land. My perspective may be biased, though, having 2nd Afghan War colonials myself.
ReplyDeleteGlad you approve, Ed! you may be biased but so am I!
DeleteBy the way, you are the 50,000th comment on this blog!
Woot!
DeleteWoot! Indeed!
