Pass the Pathans

With overnight guests and a steady parade of grandkid birthday parties (three), one recital, and very little quiet, not much was accomplished over the weekend just past.  There was some time during the early morning hours to work at the painting desk before the house sprung to life with a three-year tearing through the house.  We did have to explain the difference between grandpa's toys and the three-year old's toys.  Luckily, the little one was not too interested in my toys.
I did manage to finish a 15-figure band of Pathans to add into the 19th Century Great Game project.  Figures are Wargames Foundry.  These three stands are based as irregulars more suitable for harassment than stand up fights.
This week looks relatively quiet on the gaming front until Friday when I host a refight of the Bassignana battle with four players.  With quiet returning to the house and rain coming down in a steady pour today, perhaps I can spend some quality time at the painting desk?  Lots in work with a decidedly WAS/SYW flavor but with a few surprise project additions as well.

There is still a Bassignana report from last week to write too.  Until that time, below is another teaser from the battle showing d'Aix' Piedmontese holding the high ground as the French contemplate an assault.

  1. Your Pathans have turned out really well, a very nice unit. Great figures from Wargames Foundry, good sense of movement in them especially the swordsmen, super work on them.

    1. Glad you like them, Donnie! Even though old, these Foundry figures are still first rate and paint easily.

    1. Nancy and I often joke that I get in a full day's work before she gets up in the morning.

  5. Lovely work on the Pathans Jonathan. It's always great have the grandchildren over, but entertaining them for more than three or four hours can be a challenge.

    1. Your right on the entertaining calculus. We had them not for three hours but for three days. Glad you approve of the Pathans.

  6. High losses on the side of Piedmont as I guess. After my last game I have to play 2 more battles for all major encounters of the WPS and hope to return to the WAS in October or November.

    1. AndrΓ©, both sides saw big losses. The deciding event was when the King went down in melee. I hope to turn to playing some of your WPS battles.

  7. A frightful looking set of ruffians, what! Where’s Flashman gone?
Will we see their opponents soon?

    1. No Flashman. Their opponents will likely be Russian and a unit of Russians appeared recently.

    2. Ah! I forgot the Moscow Regiment.
      Flashman's nemesis Ignatieff perhaps?

  9. Still chipping away at the painting while there is chaos in the household, a true wargamer.

    1. At least I am not moving house and country! I see that you are still hotly engaged on the wargaming front despite the chaos swirling around you.

  10. Excellent work on those Pathans, that due to their dress, can be used from the Balkans right across to Afghanistan and the Chinese border. Well, that's how I plan to use mine! Weather still up and down here but the games room is now pretty much done, bar moving all the books and figures into their new home:).

  13. Nice work Jon a good looking unit. I would try to keep that little one out of your gaming room we wouldn’t want those boxes to tumble onto the floor !

    1. Thank you Matt and thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, the path to the guest suite in the basement passes through the game room.

  17. The Pathans look lovely Jon - I really do like your "barren" type basing (seen here and also on the previous biblical unit!)

  18. Cool Pathans. A refreshing switch from the "usual suspects" of the Sudan and Zulu-land. My perspective may be biased, though, having 2nd Afghan War colonials myself.
