Back to Spain!
In anticipation of a return to the Reconquista and Spain, I pulled the 28mm collection from its boxes and laid out a parade.Today's trooping features the Muslim armies gathering for battle. Not all will take to the field but a goodly number of them will. The collection has figures from a number of manufacturers including Black Tree Design, Artizan, Perry, Gripping Beast, and maybe one or two more. The bulk of the figures are definitely BTD picked up ages ago.
The army will go from the parade ground straight into battle in a contest later today on the field of Huesca.Today's battle sees me matching wits against an opponent fresh off a victory on the plains of Sumeria. With a string of four defeats at the hands of four different players, which wily opponent will I face on the field?
A very impressive collection, Jon. I may be mistaken, but thr Moors look a bit outnumbered in the forthcoming clash??
ReplyDeleteThank you, Keith! The two armies are about the same size. The main difference is that the Moors form their heavy infantry up into large units with supporting archers.
DeleteGreat to see the Reconquista parade. Don’t think I have any Perry figures in my collection ?
ReplyDeletePulling all of the figures out of boxes for a parade can be surprising. Many of the light cavalry are Perry figures.
DeleteImpressive! The unpainted lead pile has more than a few Gripping Beast figures. On my "to do" list ever since seeing El Cid as a child......
ReplyDeleteNeil
Many of us get inspired by a good movie. The Gripping Beast metal figures are very nice.
DeleteAn impressive looking army
ReplyDeleteIt is an impressive sight!
DeleteThe collection looks great Jonathan. The banners really add to the overall look and the colours you have used are great.
ReplyDeleteThanks! With banners waving and clothing variety, this is a colorful army. But will they fight?
DeleteWow! That is an impressive mass. Looks great all together and individually.
ReplyDeleteChris
The photo offers an explosion of color. Massed up like this, most armies will look just as impressive.
DeleteYour collections are pot pourri of delightfulness and great temptations to embark on something new.
ReplyDeletePhil, my collections sometimes seem boundless. If they tempt others to join in, terrific!
DeleteA fantastic looking army there Jonathan. I know they are all different units but together as one they look like something you would see on the battlefield.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ben! Packed together, as in these photos, produces a pleasing sight.
DeleteA very nice army parade. Good luck with your game.
ReplyDeleteThank you on both counts, Peter!
DeleteI love a parade, such a grand sight of your Reconquista collection. Looking forward to readying of your next victory on the table.
ReplyDeleteEveryone loves a parade, Joe! As for victory, my record of late does not hold much promise.
DeleteEchoing previous comments, impressive army indeed
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them!
DeleteGosh, what a fantastic looking force you have there Jon! I'm not sure I've seen these before but they are lovely. I'm looking forward to seeing how they and you get on in the battle:).
ReplyDeleteHi Steve, these armies were out for a few games late last fall. If you look back at Ucles, you will see some of these armies in action.
DeleteGood luck in your battle mate. Both sides can consider themselves winners if they get to use these fantastic miniatures.
ReplyDeleteUp against a clever and lucky opponent, I will need much luck. When you can get a game in with a friend, we are all winners.
DeleteSetting up the parade must have brought a moment of absolute delight. I also like the building in the background.
ReplyDeleteNorm, isn't it a fun exercise to pull the figures to line them all up on the table? I reckon this exercise brings joy to us all. The walled town is fab! It was a end of year purchase that took more than two months to arrive. Well worth the wait.
DeleteVery nice collection there Jonathan, always good to host a parade.
ReplyDeleteEveryone likes a parade, right?
DeleteA Moorish/Saracen army is a project I've always wanted to tackle to face my unloved and unfinished Vikings. But I think I'll live vicariously through yours instead! LOL
ReplyDeleteReally nice collection - looking forward to seeing this battle enfold.
Thanks, Dai! Go ahead, tackle the Moors/Saracens to complete your project.
DeleteI'm following your blog for quite some time but the amount and size of armies you have still surprises me. Good looking armies as well :)
ReplyDeletePascal, I surprise myself too. Glad you like these fellas.
DeleteGreat looking army Jonathan. I think there is often great value in mixing figures from different manufacturers on a base (for all but horse and musket in their nice ordered lines).
ReplyDeleteRichard
Thanks, Richard! I do not believe I have any mixed manufacturers on the same base in these armies.
DeleteAwesome looking collection!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteA truly splendid collection Jonathan…
ReplyDeleteAll the best. Aly
Thank you, Sir, but can they fight?
DeleteWow! What a parade! All you need is the brass band! Wonderful stuff Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I ought to consider recruiting a band.
DeleteSplendid looking reconquista forces and lovely walled town! We all love a parade!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Much appreciated! The walled town is terrific. Has me considering a new project…
DeleteOpoohhhhh. Aaaawwww. 😀
ReplyDeleteI do like seeing big collections on parade. Skirmish games are nice and all but nothing quite tops the site of a mass battle. Nice job with the collection JF. 😀
Mass battles are my favorite too! Glad you like my armies.
