For a change of pace, off the workbench is a bit of terrain today. This rather large church is from Old Glory's Pirate range of buildings. This piece was ordered near year-end and only now makes it into the painting queue.
With a coat or two of paint and stain, the church now is ready for use. A dramatic transformation from the before photo shown below:

A battalion of 28mm Elite Miniatures' 95th Rifles stands guard in front of the church. The comparison between figures and church provides an indication of the church's footprint. It is rather large. This fine building will likely see service not only in Spain during Peninsular War battles but with be at home in Italy for Renaissance gaming. A versatile piece! I may return to Old Glory for addition buildings in this series.
What an absolutely character filled piece, really splendid, with rather a useful 'squarish' footprint.
ReplyDeleteThe church does have a lot of character. The inner courtyard has enough space to garrison with a battalion of infantry. The roof is removable too.

DeleteWonderful job on the church Jonathon. I came across this excellent set of buildings about fifteen years ago and they are happily all painted and part of my Peninsular building collection. As you say, they are so versatile and useable across do many periods and theatres.

DeleteThey are lovely pieces, but certainly not cheap. I have most of the Spanish Napoleonic, Eastern Europe, Napoleonic Europe and WWII pieces, but rather disgracefully haven't laid a brush on any of them yet.
I am a little undecided as to what paint to use, being unsure whether to use my usual Foundry paints where I know what I am doing, or try to find a range of craft paints. The latter would be significantly cheaper, but I am worried that it may involve a significant amount of trial and error the risk of mucking up a few pieces until I find something I'm completely happy with. Did you use a craft-style paint on this piece?

DeleteAs for my church, after a base spray everything else was done with craft paints. All of my painting is done using craft paints.
Very nice terrain piece, Jonathan. I have a similar piece. ..it has a cross at the top of the tower.

DeleteIt looks fantastic, Jon! All of the OG buildings in this line paint up well, and are lightweight as well. I considered picking up some of them, but I already have the Hovels Spanish village, which fils the same niche.

The Hovels look very good. I may consider some of those walls and a building or two. Thanks for the suggestion.
