Activity at the painting desk continues to focus on the Assyrian project. Today, a four figure stand of Foundry Assyrian mounted archers musters off from the painting desk.
The growing Assyrian project now fields three such mounted archer stands. Sculpting on both horse and rider are exceptional with good detailing on both. Great figures and fun to paint. A fourth stand is presently in work at the painting desk.
Under Impetvs, the Assyrian army can field a great many 'CM' cavalry stands. Fortunately, The Lead Pile holds a "great many" Assyrian cavalry to be pressed into service. At only four figures per stand, a unit of medium cavalry can be fielded with relative ease. Many more Assyrians are working their way through the painting queue.
I am starting to feel the heat again. I have two more stands of spearmen and some skirmishers in the wings as we speak! I should be able to throw up a suitable speed bump in the sand to test these guys by years end...
No need to feel the heat. I still have an Italian Wars army that remains untested. Maybe getting that army onto the gaming table would be a worthy goal?
Wonderful work on these fine sculpts, Jonathan. When I first saw the range advertised in color in Wargames Illustrated, I was blown away. They're still the best around.
Obviously, I am an Assyrian booster as well - mat least for the tabletop. Very cool and distinctive army; instantly recognizable even for most non gamers.
Great looking unit. I need to figure out if I can get any cavalry to counter them at this rate. Currently nothing to throw against you but chariots and waves of arrows...
Lovely looking figures, well painted and based as always, colourful chaps!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you, Iain! Colorful chaps, for sure.
DeleteBattle with these chaps can't be far away now.
ReplyDeleteNorm, current plan is to have opposition for the Assyrians by year-end. Perhaps a game over the Christmas holidays is doable?

DeleteThese are great! I really like the look of the figures and your paint job on them both!
ReplyDeleteRod, you are very kind! Thanks!
DeleteI think these are my favourites, yet, of the Assyrians you've done.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them! Sometimes a unit turns out better than expected...
DeleteVery nice indeed. I always fancied this period, but I just don't want to paint chariots. These cavalry are lovely, though.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Chariots can be a bit of a pain but worth the effort and you don't many of them.
DeleteTop notch painting and basing Jonathan, I love them!
ReplyDeleteAlways appreciate your support, Phil!
DeleteThese unit look perfect Jonathan!
ReplyDeletePerfect? Thank you!
DeleteYou're welcome :)

ReplyDeleteDean, the Foundry Assyrians are terrific, indeed. I recently ordered a few BTD Assyrians and they are not too bad either.
DeleteYou are rocking it with this army Jonathon. They look ready to came down like a wolf on the fold. Long been an army on my wish list...
ReplyDeletePeter, the Assyrian army is coming together nicely. It is a fun army to paint. Consider moving an Assyrian Army from your "Wish List" to "Do List!"

DeletePeter (Gonsalvo) you have that right! The Assyrian army is distinctive and I have you to thank for fostering my interest in this army.
DeleteGreat work perfect painting
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI appreciate your comment and recent addition as a Follower too!
DeleteYou sure are powering through this army Jonathan. Your figure count for the year must be really up there now.
ReplyDeleteThe number of units is adding up but the painting points are far eclipsed by your Herculean efforts!
DeleteBut my efforts are about to go into a dramatic slow down...
DeleteMark, even if you do not pick up a brush for the remainder of 2017, your totals will be tough to top.
DeleteAnother amazing unit. Great brushwork as always.
ReplyDeleteThank you! More Assyrians on the way.
DeleteGreat looking Heavy Horse Archers, Jon... and more still to come!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter! Yes, more to come.
DeleteAnother excellent unit of horse archers Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThanks!

ReplyDeleteThanks! Chariots and waves of arrows may be enough.
DeleteVery nice. They command that base and have real presence. Lovely work!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your encouragements, Aaron!
DeleteGreat painting and love the colour choices.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated!
