1799 Russian Jagers

After pushing out the 24 Indian Mutiny British infantry over last weekend, I found it difficult to make it down into the game room.  Not much more than a couple of token, evening painting sessions during the work week.  I did manage to complete a unit of 15 Russian jagers for the 1799 project, though.  These Blue Moon figures are actually Hessian jagers from Blue Moon's AWI range.  As mentioned in an earlier post, the uniform cut of the Prussian SYW jager, Hessian AWI jager, and Russian 1799 jager all look interchangeable to me.

A number of figures are primered and ready for the brush.  Currently on the painting desk are 26 18mm AB Austrian grenadiers.  These grenadiers will be fielded in two combined grenadier battalions for the 1799 project.

  1. Nicely done Jonathan, haven't seen many blue moon figures in the flesh yet. Look forward to the AB Austrians!

    1. The AB Austrian grenadiers are really quite nice. My impression of Blue Moon's jagers has changed slightly since I have painted 30 of them. Out of the bag, they looked really good. Only during painting and scrutiny do some of the shortcomings appear. For instance, I thought the faces looked good before painting. After closer inspection and painting, some of the faces almost look non-human.

  3. Very nice job there Jon. I think I am going to have to get some Blue Moon 18mm. I have only done artillery crews too date, but I have been thinking about doing some of their 1812 range

    1. The Blue Moon figures are quite serviceable and I like them a lot. With an Old Glory Army card, they are inexpensive as well. Good value.

  4. Great work on these, Jonathan. It sounds like they could be used for different armies if needed too.

    1. Thanks, Dean! Yes, my plan is to have these jagers see service in multiple eras. Nice when that happens.
