Digging through the depths of The Lead Pile brought up three more horse archers to add into the 28mm Reconquista project. Enough cavalry linger in the stockpile to field two or three more cavalry units. No more horse archers, however, but heavier cavalry wielding either lances or spears.
These three horsemen are from Black Tree Design and are fine sculpts. The only problem I have with these light horsemen is that the galloping horses do not have solid connections to the base. Points of contact are weak. I always must use care in cleaning them up, basing, and in use on the game table.
Out of curiosity, I tallied the number of figures painted for this collection and came up with totals of 130 cavalry and 479 foot. For some reason, I thought the collection was larger since two armies deployed take up a fair bit of real estate. Besides the horse units noted above, there are enough unpainted figures to field several more foot units.

That's one mini I don't mind in plastic - horses. Metal horses are so top heavy with those thin lower legs. Just a nightmare to work with and around.
ReplyDeleteShame, because these three look absolutely lovely Jon. Really like the positioning on the base too, reflecting how they would skirt about firing arrows and being really tricky to hit back.
Dai, I am a card-carrying member of the Metal Head Society. WotR is the only collection I have in plastic besides a few WWII 15mm vehicles. Most of the BTD horses are firm grounded in terra firma but not these galloping ponies.
DeleteGreat looking horse archers Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteNice horse archers. Hopefully the base will protect the weak ankles.
ReplyDeleteCampaign looks interesting.
Neil
Thank you, Neil! Since most of my games are remote and I am the only one handling the figures, breakage is rare. Yes, the campaign should be fun.
DeleteI always love the way you base your horse archers Jonathan. Beautiful work as usual. I find some of the Perry horses have weak ankles too because they are in proportion. Not many, but just the odd figure here and there and I always forget which one they are between games and usually find them leaning against their neighbours at the end.
ReplyDeleteLawrence, you are very kind! I often find some of these weak-legged horses leaning against a neighbor after a game too.
DeleteThat's a great looking base of figures Jon. They really pop! I think the campaigns gonna be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray! Richard seems to have singled the two of us out in his latest campaign post. Richard suggests that your reputation precedes you. The campaign will be interesting if nothing else.
DeleteLove em! You’ve brought out the faces’ character very well.
