Output from the workbench continues with the FRW theme. Today’s installment focuses on another Russian regiment from Suvorov’s 1799 Switzerland and Italian campaign.
Marching out from the painting desk is a grenadier regiment of two, thirteen figure battalions. As a reminder, Russian grenadier regiments featured soldiers wearing a SYW Prussian-like fusilier shortened mitre hat. Actual grenadiers in these regiments wore Prussian style tall mitre hats. Grenadiers were pulled out of the grenadier regiments to form combined grenadier battalions. These fellas march out as the Tuarica Regiment in their orange facings. Figures are AB Miniatures. Fine figures and another tick against emptying The Lead Pile of Russian figures for this project. While I have not made a final tally, I suspect that enough Russians are now present under arms to begin thinking about bringing this army to the table for a game.
First, though, I plan a return to Feudal Japan in a series of upcoming battles. Details on these battles to follow once an order from Peter Pig arrives with bits to construct a couple of Imperial tombs.
EDIT: Post delayed from appearing in blogroll feed by about 20 hours!
A very fine pair of units. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI do like these relaxed marching poses. Better then my strange charging Swiss. Do you want to visit the battlefields in Swiss or Italy? I once was in Zürich.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy visiting some of these battlefields in northern Italy and Switzerland. I have visited Zurich twice but never made it to the battlefield.
DeleteMaybe it's covered by buildings. Sometimes it's difficult to make useful photos. Cheers
DeleteKevin Zucker has just completed his Italian battlefield tour and has posted these pictures of that, it might be worth enquiring if he is doing another - link - https://talk.consimworld.com/WebX?14@@.ee6bef6/24363
DeleteThanks for the link, Norm!
DeleteBeautiful work on some very nice figures Jon. Once you fo your tally, a FRW Russian parade might be in order?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith! Yes, perhaps a Russian parade is in order.
DeleteLovely looking unit Jonathan. I see the posting lag continues to plague us all.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The lag is really annoying as you know very well. Perhaps this post will NEVER show up in any feed.
DeleteI posted at 0800 NZST so I will be watching to see when it appears...last in took around 24 hours.
DeleteThis lag is getting ridiculous. Not everyone seems to be affected, though, and not every post. Very curious.
DeleteSomwhere between 10 and 12 hours my post appeared.
DeleteThis post saw an even longer lag.
DeleteI echo Keith's request for a parade. Liking these fellows. Those hats are very fetching.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dai! Two votes for a Russian parade!
DeleteNice work, as always, Jon 👍🏼.
ReplyDeleteHow long a wait do you generally have for transatlantic mailings?
Thanks, Martin! The wait time for this post to appear is really ridiculous, isn’t it? Sigh.
DeleteNo, what I was referring to was the wait for eg the Peter Pig stuff to arrive…transatlantic snail-mail 🙂
DeleteTransatlantic post time is actually very good.
DeleteNice Russians Jonathan - let's see 'em all!☺
ReplyDeleteMy posts are lagging by about 17 hours to appear on others feeds.....
Neil
Thanks, Neil! This post experienced a similar lag.
DeleteA most splendid finish on the equally splendid figures. However won't thirteen figures be unlucky?🙂
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have no fear of the number 13.
DeleteRolling poorly never seems to depend on the number of figures in my units. 😂
DeleteSo true!
DeleteA wonderful looking unit, Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Happy to see that you discovered my long delayed blog feed.
DeleteGreat looking regiment Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLovely work there Jon and interesting to see that the combined Grenadier Battalions carried flags, as I don't think this was the case during the SYW? As for your post, it certainly wasn't in my feed at 9.00am UK time:(.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Steve! This is not a combined grenadier battalion. This is a grenadier regiment showing fusiliers with the grenadiers detached to form separate combined grenadier battalions. Confusing, isn’t it? Happy to see that you found this post!
DeleteYes very confusing, had to do a double take!
DeleteBest Iain
It is confusing especially when details are translated from the original Russian.
DeleteLovely looking regiment Jon, very iconic these Russian grenadiers, they look so SYW with the fusilier mitre, great work. I just found your post at aprox. 15.00 uk time!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donnie! The Russians reverted for a brief period to as very SYW-looking uniform and headgear. Glad you discovered my post!
DeleteYour post has only just appeared on my blog roll, Jon. Blogger is being rather annoying lately!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, 2 fab looking units, I never knew the Russians wore a shorter grenadier hat, like this?? Was this just for this theatre or a the norm for the time?
Post delays in the blogroll feed are REALLY annoying! Russian grenadiers wore the taller mitre while the fusiliers (these guys) wore the shorter mitre. This was regulation uniform for the time.
DeleteThanks, Ray!
Your Feudal Japan project sounds intriguing.
ReplyDeleteYou’ll see them soonish.
DeleteA snappy unit for an overlooked, but really interesting, era.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ed!
DeleteVery smart and you can't beat a Russian grenadier mitre. I always seems a shame to me that only the Pavlov Grenadiers carried them on. Lovely work Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lawrence!
DeleteGreat work Jonathan, they look very nice.
ReplyDeleteAlthough it is annoying, I am happy to wait 24 hours for anyone's posts. It is way better than the 80's and 90's with a 2-3 month wait for the next wargaming magazine!
And hopefully it is not a sign of the impending AI apocalypse 😮😂
Thanks! I am very relieved to see that you are willing to sift through all of the more recent posts in your blogroll to come back to a post that was a victim of the feed lag. That’s dedication!
DeleteSuper looking regiment Jonathan!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteNice work Jon very smart in their green 👍
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Matt!
DeleteGreat Grenadiers, Jonathan !
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteSplendid looking unit and I always love Napoleonic Russian flags, if my nephew hadnt already collected them I would definately start at least a small force!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you, Iain! The way you paint, a small force is nothing to muster. Go for it!
DeleteBeautiful grenadiers, Jonathan. No Russian army would be complete without grenadiers wearing mitre caps.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dean! This grenadier regiment is made up of fusiliers in the short mitre hat.
DeleteA very fine looking regiment Jonathan
ReplyDeleteGlad you approve!
DeleteMore marvellous 1799 Russians. Delightful Jon.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, James
Thank you, James!
