Andalusian Spearmen

On one on my recent digs through The Lead Pile, I turned up several blister packs of Artizan and Crusader Reconquista figures.  Most of these packs were likely picked up from a Caliver Books' order from a long time ago.  Anyway, with the Reconquista games still in mind from the beginning of the year, I figured why not push some of these figures into the painting queue.  Well, that is exactly what I did.
The dozen figures formed up today are a body of Andulasian spearmen from Artizan Designs.  Fine sculpts and easy to field.  When will the Reconquista see action back on the table?  I do not know but next time these spearmen may just take to the field.
A second installment of the Battle Among the Tombs is up for later this week.  Should be fun to refight the scenario and see if I can improve upon my results.  I have yet to see which army my opponent will choose.  After this, one-to-one battle is in the books, I may schedule a multiplayer game and see how that goes.

Activity on the painting front has slowed (OK, even slower than before!) as I undertake a rebasing of my growing Wars of the Roses collection.  Details on that task another time!  In addition to the rebasing of the WotR project, idle time has been spent sticking together more Perry WotR figures.

Holy Moly!  This post showed up in the blogroll almost immediately!

  1. Lovely looking unit there Jon, with a nice choice of colours, nicely complimented by the flag:). Very nice sculpts too. Good to see the Blog post back to normal, famous last words, so let's hope they have fixed the issue...

  3. Yet more El Cid period figures? Is that lead pile inexhaustible? ☺
Rebasing? That way lies insanity! I assume it's due to a new set of rules?

    1. Still more where these fellas came from although the supply of figures for this period is dwindling. The Lead Pile is HUGE, Neil!

Rebasing is not so bad. The whole process can be enjoyable. The rules are not changing but I wanted the stands to fit into my four inches hexes better. I know, I know...

    1. Thanks, Keith! I am likely in the minority when it comes to tackling the rebasing of an entire project.

  9. What happened to the 24 hour delay? Nice to see things returning to some form of normality. I wonder what Blogger will have in store for us next?
These look like terrific sculpts and beautifully painted Jonathan. Why are you rebasing your War of the Roses collection? A new set of rules?

    1. Hopefully the 24 hour lag is gone! I am rebasing for a few reasons but mainly to reduce the number of bases to move per unit (two vs three stands) and so that each base fits within a four inch hex. Before I had three base spanning two hexes.

  10. Love the way you have painted and based those - very clean, neat and smooth looking finish.

  11. They look ready for action, for sure! I love the way that you 'dip into' your pile, pull out some figs and say to self "I'm gonna paint these". It's a brilliant way to do things and so obviously works for you too.
    Best wishes, James

    1. Thanks, James! Variety, as they say, is the spice of life. Works for knocking figures out of The Lead Pile too!

  15. This looks like the kind of unit that will be useful to have again and again as they fit right into all sorts of encounters - perhaps unsung but ever practical. Nice work.

    1. These fellas will see action in every scenario. Looking at the collection, I could use more archers in supporting roles. Glad you approve of the work.

    1. Thank you, Iain! More Samurai fighting and a rebasing project are keeping busy. I have run out of bases, though, and progress has ground to a halt until the order arrives.

    1. Thanks! As for seeing the Reconquista collection back out on table, you ask a good question. I have other collections and scenarios in mind before bringing these armies back to the table but priorities can change.

  19. Nice unit Jon. As others have said, great variety of poses and colours. The flag looks like inspiration for tiles: I’d better not show the missus, or she’ll have me spending hobby money on them!

  20. A ton of colour and interest in that unit. Your post may have instantly published ….. but that doesn’t stop me being late to the party :-). Also very interested in your WotR plans.

    1. Thank you, Norm! You can never be too late to the party. I act run out of bases so rebasing is being pushed back a bit. Make sure you have enough bases before undertaking a rebasing project! With a long holiday this week, order turn-around will likely be delayed.

  21. More great looking figures. I like that flag as it should stand out quite well. Rebasing! That's a serious undertaking. Certainly a solid tease of things to come. Looking forward to more battles in the tomb reports.
