A Little Bump in the Road

Thanks to everyone who took the time to leave a comment on the previous GWS analysis.  The post saw a lot of good commentary on the topic of media sources for inspiration.  The post even saw some activity on the Lead Adventurers' Forum.  A related analysis is in work which takes a look at what inspires us most.  Hopefully, the next survey iteration with garner an equally robust discussion.

The week began on a sunny and hot note.  Cycling mileage picked up and I looked forward to a game on Monday.  With illness swirling all around, I thought I possibly had dodged this latest bullet shot my way.  It was not to be.  I was struck down on Sunday.  By Monday, I felt even worse and reluctantly cancelled the scheduled remote game.  Sitting here at the keyboard on Tuesday morning, I see no light at the end of the tunnel yet.  Hopefully, my situation improves enough to host a planned game on Thursday.
Until then, I manage to muster just enough strength for short painting sessions.  For variety and to empty a few bins having just enough figures to form a unit, several units, for projects not seen in a long time, are in work.  Today, though, out from the painting desk is a regiment of Spanish cavalry for the often expanding SYW/WAS project.  These troopers march out as the Granada Cavalry Regiment.  Figures are Eureka Miniatures.
What is next off the painting desk?  Stay tuned!

  1. Splendidly turned out troops as usual Jonathan. I missed your last post, I was in holiday mode last week. Sounds interesting I will check it out.

  3. Good to see you're well enough to post up pics. The unit looks a cracker.
I'm trying to sort some terrain out for my and Lee's Retreat from Moscow game.

    1. Thanks! Sorry about Monday's game cancellation. In my condition, hosting a game would not have been possible.

  7. Sorry to hear you've been under the weather Jon:(! We've had the usual kids colds being brought home from school, which has knocked us about a bit, but only for a day or so. An accident on my bike and a nasty cut to my leg has kept me indoors, but at least I've made good progress on the gaming and painting front. Silver linings and all that.

Nice unit BTW and good to see you are still able to paint:).

    1. Steve, the grandkids were the instrument of destruction in this house too! Nancy was really sick for a few days, and those bad days are upon me now.

Too bad about the bike accident. What happened?

A couple days of enforced rest has allowed me to accomplish a few short bursts at the painting desk as well.

    2. Quite literally a bump in the road, or a dirt track to be more precise! My front wheel hit something, which meant as I then hit some gravle it dug in and before I knew it, I was going over the handle bars and my leg hit the pedal or something, taking a long chunk of skin off, that required a trip to A&E. A week in and finally the dressing is off, the fabric stiches have done their job, but it will take along time for it to properly heal. Not quite an Action Man scar though;)!

    3. That IS quite a bump in the road! Taking stitches, that must have been a nasty gash. My last misadventure on the bike was hitting a storm grate, not able to unclip in time, and jamming the big ring's teeth into my leg when I toppled over. What a bloody mess!

  8. Commiserations on your health status Jon, it's always annoying to miss out on doing something you are looking forward to, based on ill health! At least with your frequency of gaming, it isn't a once a month opportunity lost!
The new cavalry look great, very nice Eureka figures 😀

    1. Thanks, Keith! Being down due to illness is quite annoying! With some luck (and rest), I will be back in action soon.

My wife has tested positive for Covid and has been unwell, not sure if I've got it yet!
    Stay well!

    1. Thanks, Neil! It could be COVID here too but we don't test. Whooping cough is making the rounds as well. I hope you can avoid catching your wife's bug. I failed in my attempt!

  11. First, hope you recover soon from your malady. Great brushwork on the cavalry, even more creditable if one considered you did it when off you feed.

    1. Thanks, Joe! Recovery soon may be a stretch. My granddaughter has been fighting this virus for three weeks now.

The key to combatting illness is not to be too sick to paint!

  16. I hope you are feeling better soon Jonathan, or at least well enough to keep painting.
Another nice unit done. Must be about time for some figure shopping.... always makes me feel better. 😁

    1. Thanks, Ben! For figure shopping, I have really cut back on my buys the last year and a half. I (finally) realized all never paint half of the stuff I have accumulated. That's my story and I am sticking with it.

  17. Do get better soon Jonathan!
Painting whilst ill, you are a machine (and they look as good as ever too). Most of us have a bit of trouble getting l motivated from time to time without any illness as an excuse. You are amazing!
    Best wishes, James

  19. Sorry to hear that you came down with whatever is going around. Sounds like the same thing that brought a friend low recently around here. It knocked him on his arse, too: not just a case of the sniffles!

  20. Ah, that’s a shame. Sorry to hear that. Hope you recover soon Jon.
But it looks like you can’t keep a good man down and you still manage to paint another great looking unit.
