French Infantry for the 1799 Project

After a heavy dose of painting 25mm figures in 2017, the new year begins with figures of the smaller variety.  That is, 18mm Napoleonics for the 1799 project.  Since one of my 2018 goals included getting more 15s across the painting desk, I start the year off on the right foot.
Off the painting desk are two, 13 figure battalions of early French infantry.  The figures are from Campaign Game Miniatures out of Spain with the exception of the mounted officers who are from AB Miniatures.  The grenadiers are wearing bearskins while all others are in bicorne.  I really like the look of French in bicorne!
Among other items in work at the painting desk, two more battalions of French are winding their through the production line.  It will be a week before the second group of two battalions emerges.  Several units for other projects are in line at the photo booth first.

  3. Are you basing by the battalion throughout? In your rules do the bases act independently as battalions, or are they grouped into regiments / brigades? They are fine figures, though more demanding on the painters eye and brush i imagine.

    1. Yes, each stand (BMU) is one battalion and operate independently. Battalions are grouped into higher formations by means of separate command stands.

As my eyes age, I find painting 28s easier on the eyes than the 15s. I can still see the 15s, though!

    1. Thanks, Peter! The Campaign Games Miniatures' figures are more animated than AB. I like the CGM style.

  6. Excellent looking units. I've only done a few Campaign Miniature figures, but I was pleased with them.

    1. Thank you! CGM are solid figures to my eye. I like them! I would enjoy seeing the owner, Dermot, make Austrians in the early casquet. That would be cool!

    2. No progress. Maybe after the commission. I am pulling out all the stops right now to get everything done in time for Glenn's April game.

  12. Excellent as always. I am looking forward to seeing these on the table for "Castiglione 1796 or Rivoli 1797 or Trebbia 1799" this year.

    1. Thanks! Rivoli provides and interesting tactical situation for both the French and Austrians. I think you would enjoy the challenges in that.

  13. Great looking late Republican infantry, Jon. I had never done any French in Bicorne until last year, and that was triggered by a "price you can't refuse" from freddy in the HCon fl;ea Market followed by the Austerlitz game. Now I have about 6 more battalions to paint up, plus another 2 -3 of early Legere in the side plumed shakos. They will have to wait their turn until after the Spanish are done, though!

I look forward to seeing your early French take to the field. Of course, after all of your Spanish have been mustered. Spanish? That reminds me. I have a bunch of Spanish to paint too!
