Tajima Miniatures' Static Grass Tufts

After seeing several bloggers rave about Tajima Miniatures' (website) static grass tufts, I figured I ought to give them a try.  Although a U.K. vendor, shipping is free for international orders exceeding three tuft packs.  With that incentive, I ordered five packs on 05FEB2014.  Imagine my surprise when the box from Tajima arrived in Washington State on 10FEB2014!  Wow!  That is fast delivery!

Each pack is individually boxed.  I ordered two samples: Wild grass tufts (left) and Large grass tufts in mixed colors (on right).

Of course, I wanted to try this out so I pulled some of the recently completed Spanish-American War stands out for a test.  What makes these tufts so appealing is that they are self-adhesive.  No need to apply tacky glue to either the figure stand or tuft underside before affixing to the stand.  That is a time savings and "no muss, no fuss."

The boxes ordered should be sufficient to finish off the rebasing of my Spanish-American War Spanish.  Nice product!

  3. I've just ordered three packs of my own - the reviews are uniformly good.

  4. I think we were inspired to get these from the same article. I purchased the same packs you did as well as some of the small packs for my hex terrain project. Overall I like them better than the Tufts I purchases from Army painter, with the exception of the regular shape.

  7. They look great! Possibly better than the Army Painter tufts I've recently been using. I will have to take a look at these. If a fellow Washingtonian endorses them I must take heed!

    1. Dean! These tufts are terrific. It really speeds up application not having to use glue. The Silflor I have been using may be a little less expensive but these are much easier to apply.

  8. Interesting! I missed these article(s), obviously. I have some of the Silfor tufts, which I have used sparingly the past 2 years where it works (mostly on my Egyptians and some commander bases). I do find the need to glue them down a nuisance, and find I have to do it *before" I flock the bases, and then that tends to get flock on tufts if you are not careful. I will keep these in mind if/when I use up the Silflor stuff!

    1. Peter, I apply the Silflor tufts after flocking and then hit the stand with a coat of Dullcote. That seems to keep the tufts in place. Do give the Tajima tufts a try next time.

  9. Would they go with 15mm figures do you think?

    1. I ordered the larger sized tufts for 28mm figures but Tajima carries smaller tufts in 2mm length that should work well with 15mm figures.

  10. A bit of thread necromancy, but I noticed when I went to order today, that they no longer do free international shipping. The rates are now 3.50 for the first box +1 for each additional. My last order for 6 boxes at 32 would have cost me 8.50 or about $13 US added to a $50 order
